Exciting News from the NASSM President
Hello NASSM Members,

I hope all our northern hemisphere members have had a wonderful summer and you've had a chance to spend time with loved ones. Southern hemisphere members, I hope your winter weather has been tolerable and you are well!

I would first like to thank everyone who joined us for a very successful virtual conference. Another big thank you to Stacy Warner, Orland Hoeber, Bob Heere, and Rob Ammon and many, many others for all their hard work. I look forward to welcoming everyone to Atlanta June 3-5, 2022 – in person!! It will be wonderful to see everyone again in just a few short months.

We are excited to share the launch of the new NASSM website! The new site features a refined look as well as a new member section run by Memberspace. All current members will receive a welcome email from NASSM with instructions on how to log in to the members only area of the new website. This email should arrive within the next 24-48 hours. Please make time to follow these instructions so we can transfer your membership to the new website quickly. This new member service will allow you to reset your forgotten password without having to email web support and will streamline renewing or purchasing your membership, saving all parties precious time. It will also enable NASSM to better communicate with its members via built in communication tools. We are also excited to incorporate the NASSM Blog into the website rather than having it exist in a separate domain. The new site will now serve as a one stop shop for membership services, conference details, communication, and the blog.
In other exciting news, at the last AGM, the membership voted to grant a new award – The Distinguished Research Award. This award complements the service and educator awards, serving as the third leg of a stool, with the prestigious Earle F. Zeigler Award serving as the pinnacle award for our members. NASSM will begin bestowing this award at the 2023 conference in Montreal. Please consider nominating a colleague who demonstrates exceptional scholarship!

The Governance Restructure Task Force is planning to host several focus groups with members as we re-evaluate the plan for the membership to review and vote at the Atlanta conference in June. If you have an interest in taking part in these valuable discussions, please reach out to me at bri.newland@nyu.edu. We are very much looking forward to hearing from the members as we continue to make progress on this important initiative.

Lastly, I’d like to announce the NASSM 2022 Call for Papers! As you will see on the new website, we invite you to join us in Atlanta in early June! The abstract submission portal will open on October 1 and will close on November 1. Please reach out to Past-President and Academic Program Coordinator, Dr. Damon Andrew at dandrew@fsu.edu, with questions.

I look forward to serving NASSM this year! I wish you all a very successful start to your semesters!

Best,

Dr. Bri Newland
President, NASSM
