EXCITING PROGRESS IN UGANDA!

We leave on Thursday, November 5th for our annual trip to Uganda and, once again, we will be celebrating Christmas with the schoolchildren and, even more exciting, visiting the site of our proposed rural clinic! To bring you up to date …

Once the Mbiriizi Advanced Primary School had nine businesses that would generate revenue and create a self-sustaining entity, Sylvia’s Children moved on to their next project which is a model clinic, with the same self-sustaining plans, designed for rural communities in rural, underserved communities.

Thanks to the four Ugandan Trustees and one Ugandan advisor we are now incorporated as a Ugandan non-profit … Sylvia’s Children Healthcare Initiative and Education Foundation Limited … and have purchased three acres of land for our first construction site. (In addition, three Trustees have been added to the American non-profit in order to give us a cross-cultural balance.)

There were already 200 coffee trees on the land so we only had to plant another 3,000 trees which should mature within 3 to 5 years to yield coffee. With the current mature trees, we should be able to get a yield no later than next fall (hopefully spring, but they had not been tended to so we are anticipating fall, rather than this spring.) In addition, the fence is up and natural vegetation has been planted for a natural look. The outside hedge will be thorn bushes, and the inside will be thornless bushes! This is typically Ugandan.

Our last step is to dig a well. Based on a hydrologic test there IS water; however, we are having to try different locations throughout the land. Luckily, the General Manager of Sylvia’s Children in Uganda had the well drilling company sign a contract which read, in essence, they would drill until they found water without additional charges!

All Trustees will be meeting on November 8th and then off to the site we'll go. Each of us will plant our own coffee tree … going crazy right now trying to find signs for each tree! 😊

Now the real work begins … we need to raise a minimum of $300,000 to build the clinic and housing location for the medical staff. Want to help? We need 2,000,000 bricks which are only 10¢ each. Care to buy 1,000? It would only be $100.  Please go to Sylvia's Children to donate … we make it easy!

Happy Halloween and Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Please remember how much we all have to be thankful for and how even a small donation can help these underdeveloped countries have a better life.

With gratitude,

Sylvia’s Children is a 501(c)3 organization dedicated to high quality education and health care to the underserved children and families in Uganda Africa with a goal of establishing programs for independence from the tin cup mentality.
