Honoring Refugees Around the World

Samaritas will celebrate refugees' positive economic and cultural impact on

June 20th.

"Samaritas strongly believes we need to uphold American's legacy of welcoming refugees. For 72 years we've served refugee children and families and we'll continue to do so as long as there is a need, " said Kevin Van Den Bosch, COO, Samaritas. "Refugee Resettlement is a lifeline to so many vulnerable refugees at an unprecedented global crisis, but we can't do it alone. Resources are stretched to their limits, and we can always use more staff, volunteers, and community partners to bolster our existing statewide programs."

Last year our organization served 2,520 New Americans and provided Post Refugee Resettlement services for 1,093 people from dozens of countries in Europe, Asia, Africa, the Middle East and Central and South America. Click here to learn more about World Refugee Day.

Samaritas Foster Care

Town Hall Takeaways

Last month, Samaritas leaders and the state’s foster care leaders participated in a frank discussion about what’s causing so many kids of color to go into the foster care system. Emmy-Award-winning media personality, Christy McDonald moderated the 2022 Samaritas Foster Care Town Hall conversation with foster care experts like Trisha Sverns of Samaritas. Together they uncovered some of the reasons why Michigan’s foster care system is not always fair. In fact, Director Demetrius Starling, of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services' (MDHHS) Children’s Services Agency (CSA) highlighted key findings from Michigan's Child Welfare Improvement Task Force Report. Visit this Samaritas web page to view a recording of this virtual panel.
