Our busy summer at Autism Connections is winding down, but not for long!
  • Our Fall Social Skill Groups will be starting in Mid-September.
  • We're preparing for the addition of 2 new ABA teams  to start in the next 2 months.
  • We recently hired another Counselor, Mandi Knotts LMSW,  to provide Counseling Services to individuals with ASD, siblings and parents.
  • We're about to start our 5th year collaborating with Berkley School District as a partner in their Post Secondary Program, and
  • To support all this growth, we are meeting with  an architect to help us make the best use the building.  (More on this come in next month).
If you recently stopped in or called the Center, you probably noticed we have a new Front Office Supervisor and Front Desk Clerk.  Quintella Gates is our new Front Office Supervisor and replaces Sarah Lanphear who started a new position in Judson's HR department and Jaylee Johnson is our Front Office Clerk.  Both ladies bring a wealth of experience in Customer Service and Front Office Billing.  We are happy to have them on our team!

We are thrilled to be so busy!  We are very thankful to the wonderful families who trust us with the care their children and our dedicated staff.
I hope your school year gets off to a great start and that I see you around the Center soon.

Fall Social Skills Groups
Our Fall Social Skills Groups will be starting in Mid-September.  Groups are a great way for kids ages 6 through young adult to learn and practice social skills and make new friends while having fun!  All groups are outcome based and focus on a theme. Social Skill Groups are a great next step for children transitioning out of an ABA program and are working on Social Skills.   Check out our webpage or call for more information. 248-837-2047

Our ABA Program is Growing

This Fall, we are adding 2 new teams (16 children) to our ABA program.  We are excited to continue to provide quality services to existing clients and serve more families in this evidence-based treatment.  One of our new teams is an early intervention program for children ages 5 and under and the other team is for older children and teens and will run daily after school.  Both teams are close to being filled but we have decreased the number of children on our wait list.  So call today if you're interested in ABA services.

Our ABA program has been in existence for over 3 years and is managed by Emily Besecker, BCBA.    Not only do we provide quality treatment as evidenced by very positive outcomes and parent feedback, we also provide a strong training program for future BCBAs.  Many  staff started with us as Behavior Tutors and have since earned or are now seeking  their Master's Degree in Applied Behavior Analysis. We currently have  3 BCBAs,  2 graduate students who just took the BCBA exam and  are awaiting their results, and another 9 staff members who are working on their Master's Degree in ABA.

Our BCBAs and Grad Students are working on multiple clinic-based research projects in hopes of presenting them at an ABA Research Conference this Spring.

At this time, we accept BCBS, Blue Care Network, HAP and UBH/Optum in our ABA program. This list will be growing so contact your provider to see if we are in network.  We also contract with Easter Seals of MI  to provide ABA to children ages 6 and under who live in Oakland County and have Medicaid.

For more information on our ABA program, check out our  website. or give us a call.  248-837-2047.

Our Counseling Program is Growing too!

Due to popular demand, we have hired an additional Counselor,  so we are able to provide Counseling to more individuals with ASD, siblings, and parents. Our Counselors are licensed Social Workers and are trained in evidence-based treatment practices.   What sets us apart from other providers is our Counseling Staff are highly trained in Autism, Autism Supports, and understand the challenges faced by an individual with ASD and their family members.

Our Counseling Team is lead by Michelle Brindsen, LMSW who supervises our Counseling Staff and MSW Interns, and provides Counseling Services to small number of clients. Our Counseling Team includes: Sarah Bretz, BCBA, LMSW, Kalyla Giltz, LLMSW, Marni Hus, LLMSW, and Mandi Knotts, LMSW.

We accept many private insurances and Medicaid Health Plans for Counseling.  Please check with your insurance provider to see we are in your network.

Post-Secondary Program

Starting it's 5th Year

It's hard to believe we are starting our 5th year as a partner with Berkley School District's Post-Secondary Program. This is a community based program for young adults who have finished High School with a Certificate of Completion. All students have a current IEP with Berkley School District. They are working on skills needed to live a meaningful life as independently as possible.  Broad skill areas include: Functional Academics, Self Management, Independent Living Skills and Vocational Skills.

The Judson Center Teen House serves as a classroom 3 days a week where are students learn self-management, budgeting, money management, meal planning, shopping, cooking, and cleaning, both in a classroom like setting and a hands-on format.

The Judson Center's  Vocational Department also contracts with Berkley School District and provides community based job/volunteer placement and support for the students for 2 hours each day.

For more information on this great program, please contact Berkley School District Special Education Department.
