We’ve made significant progress on Meet Boston’s Workforce Development Initiative which aims to empower individuals from all backgrounds by offering training opportunities that will improve their skills and enhance their employability. CHA efforts focus on raising awareness and filling career opportunities in Greater Boston hotels and tourist attractions.

In early March, a new system was implemented to track all communication with applicants and stakeholders; applications, interviews, and placements. It also provides data that allows us to assess the success of the initiative and identify areas where we can improve and devote resources.

P.A.T.H. PROGRAM

Promoting Advancement in Tourism & Hospitality (P.A.T.H.) is a dynamic career immersion program aimed at addressing the current shortage of diverse talent by filling these positions with culturally diverse individuals aged 18 and over, aspiring to build careers in the hospitality and tourism sector.

Please share this flyer with your networks and /or with anyone you know who is interested in a career in tourism and hospitality and direct them to this page to apply.

Last month we shared the importance of another critical facet to this collective work that focuses on evaluating the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) platforms being used by Meet Boston destination partners.

To date, CHA has vetted six supplier diversity CRM vendors, all of whom have provided us with essential details and feedback on the advantages and disadvantages of their existing platforms.

Moving forward, CHA will work closely with the Supplier Diversity Office (SDO) to help us collectively inform and guide Meet Boston on how to develop key performance metrics for their new and improved CRM.

Stay tuned for progress and updates!

This month we are pleased to introduce Task Force member, Bill McAvoy, Executive Director of the Supplier Diversity Office (SDO) for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Formerly known as the State of Office of Minority Women Business (SOMWBA), the SDO focuses on promoting diversity, equity and inclusion in state contracting and aims to increase opportunities for certified businesses and Small Business Purchasing Program (SBPP) participants through annual state agency spending benchmarks. The SDO also provides public access to the certified business lists on their website and distributes business opportunity events and notices to SDO participants.

In collaboration with the Operational Services Division (OSD), the State Purchasing Agent, SDO recently announced that they are working together to uphold the Administration’s commitment to equity by creating opportunities for local businesses to sell their goods and services to the state and its municipalities. To read more about this click here

The CHA team is extremely grateful for the time, guidance and collaboration offered by Bill and his team with this CRM assessment process!

A special shout out and heartfelt thank you to Community Servings, one of our community partner organizations. Among its many programs, Community Servings runs the Teaching Kitchen, a 12-week job training program for people interested in careers in the food service industry who face barriers to employment. Program participants train in Community Servings’ state of the art kitchen, gaining hands-on learning experience as they learn everything from knife skills to cooking techniques, nutrition and food safety. CHA is helping to place Community Servings’ well-trained graduates in roles at our Meet Boston partners, including the Hyatt Regency Boston/Cambridge and at City Experiences.
