FLY COMPTON FOUNDATION NEWSLETTER Q3 2025

Welcome Back: Semester 2, Fly Compton Foundation

This fall, we’re excited to welcome back our students for the second cohort of Ground School, now held in partnership with California State University, Dominguez Hills. CSUDH’s Innovation Center is our new home base for Ground School classes, providing a modern hub where young aviators sharpen their skills and expand their horizons.

This move represents more than a change in address. It’s a powerful partnership that connects our students with a university environment, ignites new opportunities, and signals that the pathway from the classroom to the cockpit is closer than ever.

Exciting News & Announcements

Girls In Aviation

This September, Fly Compton students joined United Airlines’ Aviate Program for the 9th Annual Girls in Aviation Day at LAX. Students toured multiple departments — including Tech Ops, System Operations Control, and Baggage Service — and met pilots, flight attendants, and aviation leaders.

The day wrapped with lunch onboard a United aircraft and a planeside group photo — an unforgettable, up-close look at the world of commercial aviation and a reminder that their dreams of flight are within reach.

Honoring Black History in Aviation

Willa Brown (1906–1992) was the first African American woman in the United States to earn both a pilot’s license (1938) and a commercial license (1939). She co-founded the Coffey School of Aeronautics in Chicago, where she trained more than 200 pilots, many of whom went on to join the famed Tuskegee Airmen.

Her leadership opened doors for women and minorities in aviation and helped shape the nation’s wartime pilot training programs.

Student Highlights & Updates

Maddox Bain

This quarter, we’re proud to highlight Maddox Bain, a Fly Compton Ambassador, who completed our ground school and 2024 Summer Solo Camp alum.

Maddox’s commitment to excellence shines both in the classroom and in the air. He recently Passed his Private Pilot check ride, and we couldn’t be more excited to coach him through this lifetime achievement. Fly Compton is proud to play a role in his aviation journey, and we’re confident he’ll soar through this next milestone.
