Introducing the Ellie Fund's New Board Chair
A note from Scott Clifford

I was introduced to the Ellie Fund nine years ago when a close friend of mine was diagnosed with breast cancer. I felt an overwhelming need to do something to help her and her family. That's when she told me about the Ellie Fund; she shared her story of being a single mother of four who was actively being treated for breast cancer while working full time in order to keep her health insurance. She told me that the only way that she was able to continue caring for her family and undergo treatment was with the support she received from the Ellie Fund.  Over the last nine years (seven of which I have had the pleasure of serving on the Board of Directors) I have heard countless more stories of families in Massachusetts facing similar situations, choosing between feeding their families and paying medical bills.

I am thrilled to be stepping into my new role as Chair of the Board of Directors at such an exciting time for the Ellie Fund. In 2019, we are on pace to serve over a 1,000 patients! As we continue to
support the needs of patients and families who are facing a breast cancer diagnosis, the demand for the services that the Ellie Fund provides continues to grow. I am confident that with our great team of dedicated staff, our board and our volunteers, along with our generous corporate and individual donors, we will be able meet these demands. The financial burdens that one encounters while facing this disease can be impacted by a single donation. Imagine that - a single donation can address the sudden and unexpected emotional and financial stress that comes with a breast cancer diagnosis.

I know I speak for my board colleagues, when I extend our deepest appreciation to Marcia Boyle for her steadfast dedication and leadership as Board Chair for the past 5 years.  She has served as a mentor to so many involved at the Ellie Fund and we are thrilled that she is not only staying on the Board of Directors, but chairing our Patient Services Committee in order to put her efforts where it matters most to all of us, our patients. Thank you, Marcia and to the entire Boyle family for supporting her in her passion to help Ellie Fund patients for so many years.

I am truly honored to serve this upcoming year as Chair of the Board of Directors. I know that with the continued support of my family, our generous donors, our hardworking volunteers and the amazing staff at the Ellie Fund we will continue to be able to assist families in need the services we provide.

Best wishes.

This Quarter's Highlights
  • #TeamEllie at the Falmouth Road Race - Our Falmouth Road Race runners raised over $9,000! We were so honored to have the Ellie Fund's own Kirsten Sajdak, Nicole Hartery, Kara Wishart, Brittany Rinn, Ann Marie Sargent and Alana Anderson run for Team Ellie.
  • Serena & Lily Grand Opening - In September, Serena & Lily opened their first Massachusetts location at Chestnut Hill Square in Newton. The luxury furniture and home decor retailer donated a percentage of their opening weekend proceeds to the Ellie Fund!
  • PLA! For a Cause -  The Ellie Fund was honored to once again be selected as the beneficiary of the PLA! For a Cause luncheon hosted by PLA! Boston on October 10. This amazing group of women came together to raise over $4,000 to benefit the patients we serve. Special thanks to Candy O'Terry for interviewing 3 Ellie Fund patients who bravely shared their stories at the event.
