Empowering and Strengthening
A note from Laura Proctor, Patient Navigator and Ellie Fund Board Member

As an Oncology Patient Navigator, I am humbled by the opportunity to work within a specialty that provides care for a very unique kind of patient: the cancer patient. For the first time in my career, I believe I have found my purpose.

I am honored to have played a very important role in the experience of our cancer patients and their families for the past 7 years. As a Patient Navigator at Atrius Health, I have had the privilege of establishing relationships with patients, their families and caregivers and offering additional support services available within the community. These patients teach me about hope, courage, strength and perseverance every day.

Early on in my role, I was very surprised to learn there was not much available in the form of support services, either personal or financial, for the majority of our patients. This hurdle made my job more challenging as these patients have many needs that go unmet while experiencing the burdens associated with cancer treatment.

When I found out about the Ellie Fund and the support and assistance offered for patients and their families undergoing treatment for breast cancer, I was overwhelmed. Month after month, as I advocate for our patients and their families battling breast cancer, I am no longer powerless in addressing the stresses and burdens that exist during their treatment. The expressions of relief on patients' faces when I explain the services of the Ellie Fund and its seamless application process give me comfort in knowing there are organizations working hard to partner with me in providing comfort and support. The Ellie Fund empowers us as professionals and strengthens our positions as advocates.

The rewards from the Ellie Fund are exponential. Whether it's transportation, meals, home services or childcare, their endless kindness and generosity do not go unnoticed. I received a call last week from one of our young female patients with small children who could not thank me or this organization enough for the support and services given to her during a very difficult breast cancer diagnosis. There are many more stories just like this.

In my role as Patient Navigator, I am privileged and honored to witness the kindness, compassion and caring of the Ellie Fund's committed staff. I could not be the dedicated advocate I am without the Ellie Fund by my side. As a recently elected Board member, I am excited to now play a more active role in the organization's mission.

Sincerely,

Laura Proctor

THANK YOU! 10th Annual Kelley for Ellie Recap

We are proud and honored to share that our 10th Annual Kelley for Ellie Fashion Show  raised a record $177,000! June 1 at The Fairmont Copley Plaza marked an incredibly special and unforgettable evening. Because of the generous contributions made by guests, hosts Kelley Tuthill and Susan Wornick, our partnerships with Presenting Sponsor The Slater Foundation , Media Sponsor WCVB-TV Channel 5 and the support of all our event sponsors and donors, we will continue to make a difference in the lives of those fighting breast cancer in our community.

The enormous generosity of our guests, Fund a Family Sponsor al fresco and special guest Tom Brady helped to raise more than $80,000 in our Fund a Family Campaign. A beautiful fashion show topped off the spectacular event, with the support of Fashion Partners Christina K Pierce and REISS and Jewelry Designer April Soderstrom who, along with Hope Award recipients Charles Dudley and David Honeycutt of Charles David Salons and Spas, made the beautiful women of WCVB runway-ready.

"Oh what a night! Kelley for Ellie exceeded all expectations with the surprise appearance of the one and only Tom Brady!  I am deeply grateful to Kelley and Susan, The Slater Foundation, WCVB-TV and our many sponsors and guests who generously support our mission year after year," said Executive Director Gail Fine.

Thursday, May 19 marked a wonderful night for Ellie Fund Supporter Events. We were honored to be recognized at Tico's Patio Opening Party and at Haymakers for Hope. The start of warmer weather and summer evenings was celebrated at Tico on their fantastic patio with delicious complimentary appetizers, rosé tastings and a prize drawing.

Next, we made our way to Haymakers for Hope at the House of Blues, where Tom O'Toole fought to knock out the side effects of breast cancer treatment and raised over $19,000 to support our mission!

Supporter Spotlight

Kelley for Ellie and Real Golfers Wear Pink sponsor al fresco gourmet is committed to supporting the Ellie Fund's mission.

Using their #FightBackBetter campaign, al fresco gourmet began supporting the Ellie Fund last fall during the Do Good Campaign. As a result of the campaign's success, al fresco donated coupons for free products, which have been included in patient grants every month since November 2015.

We were grateful to have al fresco join us as the Fund a Family Sponsor for our 10th Annual Kelley for Ellie and are delighted to have them on board as Birdie Sponsor for the 4th Annual Real Golfers Wear Pink on August 29.

"al fresco all natural couldn't be happier to support the Ellie Fund by donating meals to families who are receiving breast cancer treatment. Our goals with these families is to give them one less chore to worry about and that much more time to spend together," said Sarah Crowley, Director of Marketing. "We are honored to be working with such an amazing organization."
