Dear Pike families,
At Pike, our faculty and academic leaders are committed to regularly evaluating our teaching materials, pedagogy, and curricular resources to ensure they meet the needs of our Curious Learners and Optimistic Innovators. This year, a group of math educators from both divisions has been reviewing Pike’s math curriculum, and we’re excited to share updates and invite you to learn more at our upcoming Math Night event.
Since 2010, Math In Focus (MIF) has been Pike’s core math curriculum. Through professional development and thoughtful adjustments, it has served Pike's mathematicians well. However, with evolving research in math education and the natural cycle of academic programs, we recognized it was time to reassess MIF alongside other research-based curricula. We pulled together a team of teachers from both Lower School and Upper School to tackle this important work.
This summer, the Math Curriculum Review Committee reviewed state-aligned programs using Pike’s Curriculum Rubric. Lower School teachers explored Into Math, Eureka Squared, Illustrative Math, and Math In Focus, while Upper School teachers examined Into Math, enVision, Illustrative Math, and Math In Focus, narrowing these selections from a broader review of research-based curricula aligned with our rubric.
This fall, the cross-divisional math team and Student Support team updated Pike’s Math Mission Statement to guide a pilot program. Teachers are now trialing units from each curriculum option and providing feedback. The goal is to select Pike’s math program(s) for the 2025–2026 school year by spring, allowing time for professional development, transition, and implementation.
We’ll announce the selected program(s) this spring, and we invite you to learn more from the Math Curriculum Review Committee at next week's Family Math Night on Wednesday, January 22, from 5:00–6:00 p.m. We hope you will join us to meet the Math Curriculum Review Committee, explore materials, and ask questions.
We look forward to seeing you there and sharing more updates about math at Pike soon!
Thank you,
