Your Residence Contract – Respect, Belonging and Responsibility

The Residence Contract is designed to help you understand how to maintain a safe and respectful environment during your time in Residence.

Each week we’ll highlight a section of the Residence Contract. This week, we're focusing on alcohol.

Queen’s fosters a campus culture that endorses healthy, responsible and low-risk alcohol consumption practices among students. If you are 19 or older, you can consume alcohol in your private room only.

Please be aware of the following:

  • Open alcohol is not permitted in hallways, washrooms, lounges, or any other public spaces.
  • Drinking games, or any activities that promote the rapid and/or excessive consumption of alcohol are not permitted. This includes playing drinking games with any liquid, including water.
  • Displays or items that are perceived to promote unsafe alcohol consumption (i.e. trophy walls, funnels) are not permitted.
  • Possession of alcohol or beer in glass bottles and possession of large containers of alcohol (i.e. kegs) is not permitted.

For more information about this section of the Residence Contract, please refer to section 4.10.3, page 44.

If you have questions about the Contract or your responsibilities, please reach out to us at residence.conduct@queensu.ca

Join your peers in this critical movement to dismantle the structures that perpetuate violence and discrimination. Together, we can foster a campus culture rooted in consent, respect, and solidarity.

Remember, Consent is FRIES:

  • F – Freely Given
  • R – Reversible
  • I – Informed
  • E – Enthusiastic
  • S – Specific
