November 2018
WE HAVE BIG NEWS!
Fall was a busy time for Best Foot Forward, with so many exciting things going on. Here are just a few that we wanted to share with you!
Mayors Ball 2018
We were presented with the George Long Award at the Mayors Ball, by the Rotary Club of Downtown Boca Raton. The best part was sharing the celebration with so many amazing community members and BFF supporters. We are thrilled to receive this honor and dedicate it to all of the kids in our program who make us so proud. Click here for pictures of the Mayor's Ball.
AT&T Aspire Grant
Only ten programs throughout the entire country were funded, and we are one of them! As part of a collaboration with ChildNet, this funding supports organizations that deliver programs proven to help students graduate high school on time, with an emphasis on college access, persistence, and workforce readiness. Click here for the video of the AT&T grant presentation.
Lois Kwasman Grant
We were awarded The Lois Kwasman Program for Community Impact Grant at the Executive Women of the Palm Beaches annual luncheon. Two grants are given annually to non-profit organizations whose programs focus on helping girls and young women gain self-confidence and become resourceful and self-sufficient, thus positioning themselves for successful lives.
BFF Student Update

We have more foster care students in our program than ever before. Whether it is kindergartners or college students, we want to teach them as much as possible in the time that we have with them.

Our focus is always academics, but we do throw in life lessons at every possible opportunity. One of the things that we try to teach them is how to advocate for themselves in a positive and respectful manner. A perfect example of this is the letter G wrote to Highlights magazine to share her thoughts on why she did not want to read the magazine, feeling that the cover was "too young" and not indicative of the stories inside. We had her write a letter to the magazine, and when they replied, she learned that her voice can be heard and is meaningful. Click here to read the letters.

On an ongoing basis, we ask our students to write thank you letters for various reasons. It may be a dying art, but something that we feel is important. We are so thrilled every time we receive a thank you without even asking! We recently gave out cell phones as part of our AT&T funding, and afterwards received many thank you messages, including this amazing text.

All these achievements are only possible with the support we receive from you and our wonderful community. Thank you for being a part of BFF so that we can continue to provide our programs to children in foster care.
WOMEN OF DISTINCTION
CONGRATULATIONS to  Laura Messler , the 2018 Soroptimist Professional Leader of the Year! We were so proud to nominate Laura for this Women of Distinction award for her ongoing support of Best Foot Forward for many years, in numerous ways. Through her work at  Bank of America , she creates opportunities to partner with BFF. She said, "It’s not hard to spend time volunteering for BFF when you see what their impact is for their foster kids. It fills me with such joy and gratitude to be able to assist BFF, even if it’s in a very small way."
HATS OFF AWARD
We were proud to nominate Claudia Sanchez for the 2018 Nonprofits First Hats Off Volunteer of the Year. Claudia has been volunteering with BFF for 8 years by tutoring and assisting with fundraising events.

Claudia is someone that we and the children can always count on. “It’s my honor, and these kids change my life." When we informed her that we were nominating her, she said, “I don’t do anything special.” That is the essence of Claudia!
WOMAN VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR
We were honored to nominate Margi Cross  as our 2018 Junior League Woman Volunteer of the Year . She has been working with BFF for many years, volunteering her time and making connections that directly impact our students. We truly appreciate Margi’s commitment to BFF.

When asked why she chooses to support BFF, Margi said, “It's simple. The passion that I've seen, along with the growth, caring and giving back to the community, it's rarely found, and I highly value it."
CLAWS for a CAUSE
Over 100 BFF supporters enjoyed a fabulous lobster bake while overlooking the Atlantic Ocean at Claws for a Cause, hosted by Oceans 234. It was a night to remember! Thanks to a very generous donor, our coaches and a few students attended the event, with our kids eating lobster, clams and mussels for the very first time. We took a walk along the water and made wonderful memories. Click here for pictures of the Clam Bake.
