Dear readers,
I recently had the pleasure of reconnecting with a longtime friend and one of the world’s foremost voices on aging, wellness and longevity—Ken Dychtwald, PhD,
Age Wave.
In our exclusive video interview, Ken opens up about more than just the future of retirement and longevity. He shares the deeply personal journey behind it all. The good and the not so good.
Ken’s latest book, Radical Curiosity. My Life On The Age Wave, began as a memoir for his family but turned into something more: a powerful life story filled with self-discovery, struggle and reinvention. From his hippie roots and yoga days at the Esalen Institute in Big Sur…to his bestselling book Age Wave to the meteoric rise and collapse of his company.
He even shares the darkest moment when he seriously contemplated ending it all.
But Ken came back to what he loves most: envisioning the human potential of aging. Today, he speaks with wisdom, humility and clarity about how we can all live with more intention.
Whether you’re 50, 70 or 90, I think you’ll find Ken’s story both inspiring and deeply relatable. And if you're wondering how to move forward with meaning and vitality, you’re not alone.

Judy's Wake-Up Call. And What She’s Doing Now To Stay Safe At Home
Judy, 75, lives alone in a cozy home she’s known for decades. Last week, while reaching for a sweater in her bedroom, she fell. Her walker slipped on the edge of a rug and down she went. She wasn’t seriously hurt—but she couldn’t get up.
Luckily, her cell phone was in her pocket. She called her son and he came right over to help. But later, Judy confessed:
“I was scared. What if I didn’t have my phone with me? What if he hadn’t picked up?”
It was a wake-up call.

"The Best Day
Of My Life"
--Ken Dychtwald, excerpt from his latest book: Radical Curiosity. My Life On The Age Wave
Ken Dychtwald, co-founder of Age Wave and a world-renowned expert on aging and longevity, has written 19 books, delivered talks to over 2.5 million people and advised top companies and governments across the globe including five U.S. presidents.
But he says his greatest accomplishment isn’t professional.
It’s marrying Maddy Kent on Thanksgiving Day, 1983.
“Our wedding day was, without a doubt, the very best day of my life,” Ken recalls. “We were flat broke—no savings, no investments, no 401(k)s—just credit card debt and a lot of love. But we believed in each other and in the life we could build together.”
To celebrate that love, Ken and Maddy made a vow to renew their marriage every year, a tradition that became a joyful ritual. One year, they exchanged vows on a beach in St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands.
Another year, on a snowy slope in Vail, Colorado. They said “I do” again in Moorea, Tahiti. And even at the famous Chapel of Love in Las Vegas.
Now, 42 years later, their commitment is as strong as ever. The love endures—rekindled each year, nurtured by intention and grounded in the life they’ve built together.

Make a Difference After 50
Start Your Own
Non-Profit Organization
By Indu Jayakumar
Most people, when they reach 50, start thinking about giving back to the community. If you have a passion for a cause, now is the perfect time to consider starting a non-profit organization.
But should you go through the process of setting up an organization with all the commitments of tracking income and expenses? Will your idea really work? Should you test the waters first? One effective way to start is by publishing a website and studying market interest before making a full commitment.
Will someone meet with me to understand my project?
Absolutely! We can meet with you in person or online to discuss your project in detail. Understanding your vision is key to helping you successfully launch your non-profit. We take the time to understand your project before recommending the best hosting plan for you.

New York:
City Of Class.
From The Familiar To The Unfamiliar
By Don Mankin, Travel Writer
I love New York. Who doesn’t? The theater, the museums, the music, the food, the subways…well maybe not the subways.
This past April, my wife and I had the opportunity to sample it all during a one week visit to, in the words of writer, Bruce Jay Friedman, the “city of class.”
Of course, we did the usual — theater, museums, Central Park, etc. — but we also explored the far reaches of the city into outlying boroughs in search of the unusual and unfamiliar.

You Don’t Have To Leave It All To Your Kids
By Evelyn Preston, Money Lady
As Huck Finn would’ve said, “Who’d a thunk it!” After so many years of endless advice to invest wisely in order not to outlive our money, I’m proof that it can be done and rather easily without convoluted strategies or risky investments.
My recent birthday proves that unless I live long enough to star in the Guiness Book of Records, I have enough money to last through my probable lifespan…and still leave a goodly sum to my heirs.
That’s based on my personal situation and the conventional formula of living 30 years after retirement. I’ve already gone halfway; do I have another 15 years…could happen. So, dividing my nest egg by 15, I still have enough.
Of course, this is unknown territory and each person must map out a tentative journey of their own probable lifeline. This personal treasure hunt toward a happy ending comes with snags and risks and surprises: health issues, changed living arrangements, family drains, investment shoals.

Your Reverse Mortgage Questions Answered by
a Local Expert With 15+ Years' Experience
Q: Will the bank own my home?
The bank does not take ownership of your home; they simply extend
a loan to you. You continue to own and live in your home and are responsible for payment of property taxes, required insurance and if applicable, HOA fees.
Q: Do my children/family members lose their inheritance?
No, a borrower may designate an heir of their choosing. The heir(s) will inherit the home after the last surviving borrower passes away and may then choose to keep (by paying off the amount of reverse mortgage balance) or sell the home. Should they choose to sell, any remaining equity after paying off the loan (minus interest and fees) would be theirs.
Q: What is the lending limit of the HECM reverse mortgage?
As of January 1, 2023, it increased to $1,089,300. Which means
it's very likely you can qualify for more money.
To learn more about reverse mortgages, call me today 408.722.0010. Email: gmross2404@comcast.net.
