MAY 2022 - ATLANTA, GA. Haitian American filmmaker Des Gray is advancing her career to the next level with the release of her debut independent film “Mixed Girl”.

Produced by Des and media mogul and entrepreneur Yandy Smith, this groundbreaking project exposes the painful truths surrounding the self-identity crisis that biracial girls silently endure in their adolescent and adulthood years due to the emotional and mental pains that are inflicted by social bigotries. “In life there is no such thing as being black or white, we are one,” states Gray; “We are segregated against each other, sometimes within our own families, because of how our minds are being programmed. Love has no colors – love is love.”

Set in a small racially divided town, Leslie, a white alcoholic, drug addicted and vicious teenage mother falls in love with James, a young Black man that she meets at a fraternity party. Leslie gives birth to James’s daughter Ashlynn without his knowledge and starts excessively drinking after becoming burdened with raising two children alone. Years later, James learns about his troubled adolescent daughter who he now wants custody of. Together, James and Ashlynn battle to overcome her traumatic childhood as they bridge the gap between two different worlds.

The film’s star-studded cast is led by multi-talented rapper, singer and songwriter Jermaine “J Young MDK” Carter who portrays James, the father of Ashlynn, who’s played by Livia Jarcem. J Young MDK has been burning up the Hip-Hop music charts since his 2019 debut solo album release entitled “Now or Never,” which was produced by his friend and mentor Academy Award and Grammy Award- winning actor and musician Jamie Foxx. In “Mixed Girl” he is featured with Mikaela Seamans (Leslie) and Isabella Dykes (young Ashlynn).

“Mixed Girl” is intended to be viewed by multicultural audiences at multiple film festivals across the United States, this year. Learn more about "Mixed Girl" here: https://mixedgirlfilm.com/.

Born Josiane Desire, Des immigrated to the United States from Haiti when she was

12-and-a-half years old.

After arriving in Miami, FL, she taught herself how to speak English in order to gain access to an education that was previously unavailable to her. Today, Des is a graduate of both Alabama State University and Full Sail University. “God has big plans for me. I just have to be focused so I can get there.”

As the CEO of Foreign Made Films, Des is already renowned for directing and producing flawless music videos featuring mega hip-hop stars such as Davido, Mulatto, Young Thug, Saucy Santana and Future. “Mixed Girl” is an iconic addition to her already booming film career that demonstrates her versatility as a creator and visionary. “My goal as a filmmaker is to shine my light on the world and to create a film that can inspire and teach people to be better than they are today.”
