Push Up Series

Strengthen the Muscles of the Front Limb

Down = Eccentric Contractions

Up = Concentric Contractions

Level 1 exercises (POOR to FAIR strength) are completed with the front limbs on an elevated surface. If the cookies are held as shown in the photo, this position places most of the body weight in the hind limbs, allowing the front limbs to exercises with decreased intensity. A further decrease in intensity can be achieved by using a stable elevated surface.

Level 2 exercises (FAIR to GOOD strength) are completed with the front limbs on the floor. This position puts more weight through the front limbs than Level 1 exercises (front limbs elevated) and less than Level 3 exercises (hind limbs elevated). Intensity can be modified by placing the front or hind limbs on very low stable or unstable surfaces.

Level 3 exercises (GOOD to NORMAL strength) are completed with the hind limbs on an elevated surface. If the cookies are held as shown in the photo, this position places most of the body weight in the front limbs, allowing the front limbs to exercises with increased intensity. A further increase in intensity can be achieved by using a higher unstable elevated surface.
