Exercising with COPD

 

Exercise Misconception #1: A good workout must be long. This is simply not true! Every bit counts. According to the CDC, adults should try and get some sort of moderate exercise for 30 minutes, five days a week. For some individuals with COPD, breaking down the 30 minutes into 10 minute increments can make a world of difference. COPD Foundation Captains are volunteers with COPD, caregivers, friends and family members or healthcare providers who use their contacts and talents and partner with the COPD Foundation to serve as state and community leaders. Today, we are highlighting Milton Schenk of Casper, WY! Learn more about Milton and his work as a COPD Foundation Captain below.


What has impacted you the most with your work through the COPD Foundation? "Being able to talk to elected officials/advocate for lung health, receive answers to questions about COPD, learning to play the harmonica, and accessing the COPD pocket consultant guide."


What would you tell others who want to get involved with the COPD Foundation? "Get involved, read articles, get resources, do your research. When you have COPD, you need to stay active, take walks, and do your breathing exercises."


Some fun facts about Milton are that he loves to fish and go on walks, and that he used to hike a canyon to go fishing in a creek in the Big Horn Mountains!
