Hope you are enjoying the current spell of good weather!

There's new exhibitions in the Gallery and more inspirational workshops coming up in the next few weeks.   This is just to let you know about those that are just around the corner!
What's on in the Gallery ...
AlysnExhnNegative Spaces
An exhibition of new work by
Alysn Midgelow-Marsden
Negative Spaces 1 Negative Spaces 2

We are delighted that we have this exhibition from Alysn Midgelow-Marsden. As some of you may know, Alysn has recently emigrated to New Zealand with her family, and so this body of work was transported here to the UK in her suitcase!   She will be here until just after The Festival of Quilts and will also be presenting a workshop here at Art Van Go on the 24th & 25th July.

The work in this exhibition shows Alysn's continued interest in working with metals -
   stitched, pieced, printed and patina-ed.

"This collection of new works by Alysn continues an exploration in visualising the internal emotional environment entered into whilst developing work. This time might be an entrapped, immobile, negative space which is akin in some ways to the place retreated to during depressive, anxious times or a meditative, focused, quiet and safe state"

Tues 15th July - Sat 16th August.

Sat 6th - Sat 27th Sept
This group was formed in 2011 by four friends who met through workshops at Art Van Go. Wanting to develop their work they were fortunate to have Amarjeet Nandhra agree to work with them. Amarjeet is a well-known textile artist who, with Dawn Thorne, runs the Windsor School of Textile Art in Bracknell.
As a group they have grown in confidence and are beginning to find their own voices using varied approaches and techniques, many learnt during workshops taken at Art Van Go. Amarjeet challenges the group and the diversity of the work demonstrates an exploration of mixed media whilst trying to push their personal boundaries.
An addition to the Workshop Programme...
Stitches & Doodles
This is a repeat - due to popular demand - of the workshop that Gina gave in April. This replaces the original date for Janice Gunners workshop Dyeing with Confidence. That workshop has been moved to 23rd Sept.

workshopThis workshop coincides with Alysn's exhibition 'Negative Spaces' which is currently in the gallery.   As she now lives in NZ there won't be as many opportunities to take part in one of her workshops!
Textures and Memories
Thurs 24th & Fri 25th July
Alysn Midgelow Marsden
Based on the techniques and designs of her 'Beaches of north New Zealand' series, translate your favourite scene into a textile memory. Bring out the textures and details that your mind remembers but which photographs just can't do justice to. You can recall the colours, the smells, textures and small details, as well as the overall view so much more interestingly than the camera alone. Using designs which transfer both detailed and distant viewpoints of your scene onto fabric, use image transfer techniques and add textures and forms in sheers, felting and burning techniques, stitching and beading. You will be led to an assembled piece which is a personal reminder of a favourite scene.

Creating Original Designs - Exploring Thermofax Screens
Wed 30th & Thurs 31st July
Lynda Monk
Lots of people think that printing on fabric with fabric dye is the only way to use a Thermofax screen. In this workshop you will explore several different ways of using a screen. You will also be making screens to your own designs - using pencils and ink as well as photocopies - and of course, the Thermofax machine.
Cost: 81.00 (inc 15.00 materials charge)
The 25th Celebration Weekend in May...
ART VAN GO bannerThere's lots to report on our very special Bank Holiday weekend when we celebrated our 25th Birthday, but it will have to wait for another email.   I know it's going to be 'old history' by the time I get it done, but I want to get this update out to you asap.

Graffiti board
During the time just before and then after that weekend, I'm afraid technology let us down.   I managed to get through 3 laptops as one failed after the other (one terminally), and the printer/scanner decided to sulk and not talk to anything else, so no news reports of any kind!   Details will be out to you soon, but suffice to say for now, it was a fantastic weekend!!

I also have to let you know all about the Raffle and the very generous prize donors.
And finally ...
Thank you for all your support and good wishes in this special year for us.   We hope we will be seeing many of you over the next weeks either here at Art Van Go, or at the many events around the country.

With very best wishes

all of us at art van go
