Construction Update

Exit 16 DDI

DATE: Friday, March 13, 2026

TRAFFIC IMPACT AND DURATION: From Monday, March 16, through Friday, March 20, between 6 AM and 3 PM, lane closures and lane shifts will be in place at the following locations:

  • on the west side of U.S. Route 2/7 (U.S. 2/7) in front of Whitcomb Street,
  • on the north side of Upper Mountain View Drive near its intersection with U.S. 2/7,
  • on the west side of U.S. 2/7 between Mountain View Drive and the Park & Ride, and,
  • on the south side of Rathe Road near its intersection with U.S. 2/7.

In addition, the lane width of the Interstate 89 (I-89) Exit 16 northbound off‑ramp will be reduced, with traffic maintained.

Independent utility companies will periodically conduct work along U.S. 2/7 between the Winooski town line and Sunderland Woods Road, under lane closures.

Motorists should expect significant delays when traveling through the work zone and along adjacent roadways. Please plan ahead, consider alternative routes, or use other forms of transportation (carpooling, ridesharing, transit, biking, or walking). Drivers should slow down, use caution, and follow flaggers and signage.

CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES: Next week, crews may conduct hammering on U.S. 2/7 in front of Whitcomb Street to remove ledge, with additional hammering planned on the north side of Upper Mountain View Drive near its intersection with U.S. 2/7. Work will continue behind barriers along the I‑89 Exit 16 northbound off‑ramp near The Lighthouse Restaurant to build the roadway subbase. Excavation for signal work will take place throughout the week at the U.S. 2/7 and Mountain View Drive intersection, with the potential for excavation to extend to other intersections, such as U.S. 2/7 and Hercules Drive, depending on work progress. Crews will also perform stormwater channel work along the west side of U.S. 2/7 between Mountain View Drive and the Park & Ride and on the south side of Rathe Road near its intersection with U.S. 2/7.

Independent utility work will continue periodically along U.S. 2/7 between the Winooski town line and Sunderland Woods Road.

Rock removal along U.S. 2/7 near Shaw’s in Colchester, VT.

LOCATION: U.S. Routes 2/7 in Colchester starting at the Winooski town line and continuing north for 1.05 miles to Sunderland Woods Road.
