February-2 2021
Greetings!

This is a quick note to spotlight our upcoming virtual classes, several taught by talented local designer and instructor Kira Dulaney (Kira K Designs). Kira's classes are targeted to both knitters and crocheters, and add important skills to your hand-crafting toolbox. Our popular Cocoknits Sweater Workshop, taught by Mindy, is also returning (details below).

Kira has been teaching fiber arts classes and hosting crafty events in the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond since 2002. She grew up exploring various crafts and sharing skills with friends, and worked in both a fabric shop and a yarn shop, which inspired her to try new techniques and experiment with all kinds of projects. Kira's teaching style is patient, supportive, and very informative. She explains the "why" as well as the "how" of knitting, crocheting, and other fiber crafts.

Join us! Here is the lineup of Kira's classes, with links to the details and registration pages in each class title:
  • Saturday, February 27: Altering Knit and Crochet Patterns - It can be hard to find just the right knitting or crochet pattern to fit your yarn, body, and fashion sense. We will go through common alterations for size, gauge, and style. This class will be useful for anyone who knits or crochets garments or accessories.
  • Saturday, March 13: Successful Yarn Substitution - It can be nerve-wracking to switch the yarn on a knit or crochet project, yet sometimes necessary. Learning how to pick a successful substitute means you’ll never have to abandon a pattern written for a discontinued yarn, make a sweater too warm for your climate, choose from a line of colors you don’t like, or feel required to buy a yarn that's not in your budget.
  • Saturday, March 27: Gauge and Blocking - Checking your gauge is necessary if you want knit and crochet projects to fit, but a lot of people aren't sure if they're doing it right. In this class, we'll discuss why gauge is so important, the best way to make a swatch and the rare times when you can get away with being not quite on-gauge.

In addition to Kira's classes, we are excited to announce another 5-part session of our Cocoknits Sweater Workshop - Knit the Emma Sweater. All the details and registration can be found here. Registration will close on March 6 to ensure we have time to order your yarn, so register now!
