eUpdate - March 5, 2015
Expanded garbage service at no additional cost
Weekly collection of recyclables and organics start now

Residents of the following West County communities no longer need to alternate between putting out their blue recycle and green organics/yard waste carts each week.

Unincorporated communities:

  • Alhambra Valley (partial)
  • Bay View
  • East Richmond Heights
  • El Sobrante
  • Montalvin Manor
  • North Richmond
  • Rollingwood
  • Tara Hills
Cities of:
  • Richmond
  • San Pabo
  • Pinole
  • Hercules

El Cerrito already has weekly recycling, organics and waste pickups, which will continue.

Organics/yard waste (green carts) and recyclables (blue carts) will now both get picked up each week. These expanded services are being offered at no additional cost to residents under recently amended garbage franchise agreements with Richmond Sanitary Service.

Also, free food scrap pails are still available in most West County communities and cities.

Pails are in limited supply. Call your local City Hall to get a food scrap pail. If you live in any of the West County unincorporated communities listed above, you can call our office at 510.231.8686 to get a pail.

The weekly pickup of organic wastes will also help minimize odors from food waste.

Weekly collection of recycling and organics carts will be a significant quality of life improvement and provide cost savings opportunities for those who can now downsize their garbage bins. Using expanded recycling and compost services helps our communities reach recycling, environmental and climate action goals.

Any questions regarding your home service, including a request for a less expensive garbage can, should be directed to Republic Services at (510) 262.7100.
