Expanding Our Reach: Enhancing Support

for Survivors of Sexual Assault

In the United States, sexual assault remains a pervasive issue, affecting countless lives. Every 68 seconds, an American experiences the trauma of sexual assault. Shockingly, for every reported case, two more incidents go unreported. The reasons behind this silence are multifaceted: survivors may grapple with shame, embarrassment, and fear, choosing to keep their painful experiences hidden. Additionally, many survivors are unaware of the far-reaching impact that sexual violence can have on their overall well-being.



Feeling Hopeful Again

Luisa came to the Crisis Center’s Sexual Assault Services location in Ruskin for a forensic exam after experiencing a sexual assault and severe stalking. She was overwhelmed and emotional after months of stalking had led to this traumatic event.



Denim Day April 24th

We hope you will join us in wearing denim and teal on Wednesday, April 24th. This year will mark the 25th anniversary of the day to show support to survivors of sexual violence.



How You Can Help a Survivor

It is not uncommon to hear a community member say that they would not know how to respond if someone disclosed a sexual assault to them. We understand how it could be overwhelming to say the right thing and provide the correct support. The best place to start is by listening to what they have to say and believing their story. Being heard and believed can go a long way in helping that individual recover from the trauma of their assault.
