COVID-19 CONTINUES TO CONTRIBUTE TO AN ESCALATION IN DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

Since March, many adult and child survivors are enduring sheltering in place with their abuser and YWCA Glendale is witnessing first hand the uptick in domestic violence incidents, the economic stressors survivors are facing, and the resulting increase in the demand for our services. The demand continues to grow as evidenced by the increases we are seeing since we last shared program data in early May:

557% increase in tele therapy for child survivors
150% increase in requests for food and essential items
125% increase in hotline calls
47% increase in tele therapy for adults
34% increase in financial assistance for survivors
27% increase in survivors sheltered

If you would like to learn more about domestic violence and how to support survivors, we encourage you to enroll in our upcoming training, which will take place in August and September on Zoom.
CAMP ROSIE: GIRLS ON THE RISE GOES VIRTUAL

This year, we have partnered with YWCA Pasadena-Foothill Valley to implement our signature girls' empowerment summer camp. Camp Rosie is a week long summer camp designed to empower and educate girls entering grades 6-9, through a series of workshops and activities focused on STEAM Education, Arts and Culture, Life Skills and Healthy Relationships, and Leadership and Civic Engagement. By promoting assertive self-expression, teaching important life skills, and fostering the practice of leadership in a variety of settings, this unique and transformational pre-high school summer program inspires girls to reach their full potential. With the savings created by moving to virtual camp format, we have been able to offer each camper with a $75 stipend once they complete their one week of camp. The virtual shift has also allowed us to nearly triple enrollment; we are currently on track to serve 120 girls through six sessions this summer!
BUILDING A COALITION FOR AN ANTIRACIST GLENDALE
We have continued to build upon the momentum of last month's historic march and vigil to center Black lives in Glendale. In late June, we convened a group of committed community members, activists, educators, students, parents and religious leaders to discuss next steps in our work to address systemic racism and inequities in our community. We are working behind the scenes on some exciting and progressive developments for Glendale and look forward to sharing more as we formalize our coalition structure, framework for change, and set our collective agenda for an antiracist Glendale. Much more to come on this area of emerging work.
Stay tuned for updates!

YWCA GLENDALE MAKES SUCCESSFUL VIRTUAL EVENT PIVOT
In the wake of COVID-19, our executive team successfully transformed our 23rd Annual Legacy Luncheon into a new virtual event format, exceeding our original financial and supporter engagement goals. The event featured welcoming remarks from Congressman Adam Schiff that were followed by a series of curated conversations with our 2020 Luncheon Heart & Excellence Honorees, facilitated by YWCA Glendale CEO, Tara Peterson. Through inspiring and thoughtful conversations, attendees learned about new programs to advance housing solutions for our homeless neighbors during COVID-19, replicable models for low waste green school campuses, art interventions for healing and building community, prioritizing emotional recovery and mental health in health and racism pandemics, using technology to create tools for economic recovery and employment growth, leading with the heart when stepping into service and community investment work, and community and campus organizing to raise awareness of sexual violence, human trafficking and genocide and the policy work to ensure that these atrocities never happen again. Thank you again to our trailblazing honorees; we were honored to share the virtual stage with you!
