Expansive Language Revisited

In my twelve years as rector, I can’t remember such a strong response to one of my Friday messages!


Last week I shared with you the directive given by Bishop Price that we would no longer be able to use the expansive language rites for our weekend celebrations of the Eucharist. Anglo-Catholic parishes using alternative rites were similarly restricted. The bishop’s stated intent is to unify the diocese by reducing the diversity of liturgical language used in all the parishes, akin to the era of the very first Book of Common Prayer in the 16th century, when the Church of England sought to bring a divided people together to worship God with a singular volume of prayer.


The expansive language rites, by way of reminder, are the set of Rite II Eucharistic prayers modified by General Convention back in 2018 which reduce the reliance on masculine language for God. So, for example, the words “by him, and with him, and in him” that appear at the conclusion of Prayer A (page 363) were modified to “by Christ, and with Christ, and in Christ.” There were a few stylistic changes, too, and a couple that addressed matters of theology (e.g. the removal of the words “and the Son” to describe the procession of the Holy Spirit in the Nicene Creed). Big Success


The Youth of Transfiguration extend a big "Thank You!" to everyone who donated items to the parish-wide garage sale and to everyone who purchased. The 2-day sale netted a little more than $5000 which will help with the expenses of next summer's Youth Pilgrimage to Scotland.

Dallas Pride on Saturday


Over 65 Fig Folk have signed up to be a part of our witness to God's inclusive love at the Dallas Pride Festival of Rainbows and Parade in downtown Dallas on Saturday, June 6. The Festival will be spanning Main Street Garden Park, Pacific Plaza, Harwood Park, and Pegasus Plaza from 11:00am to 6:00pm and the Sunset Parade will be on Main Street beginning at 7:00pm Please keep all those participating in this event in your prayers and rejoice with us as we Seek, Serve, and Love our neighbors.


For those participants who have already signed up, please note that the Parade meet-up is at 5:00pm Saturday downtown or at the Spring Valley Dart Station at 4:00pm.

Dallas Area Interfaith Forum


Join us this Sunday between the Eucharists from 10:15-11am in the Vestry Room for a two-part class, as we welcome Walker Moore, Lead Organizer of Dallas Area Interfaith (DAI). He will use the story of Exodus and the journey of Israel out of bondage in Egypt to explore how we can effectively organize in a time of polarization and despair. DAI works to bring people of faith together from around the area to pursue the common good. Transfiguration is a member congregation, along with nearly 40 other churches and organizations. This class will be offered this Sunday, May 31 and June 7,

EMF Fish Fry & Silent Auction

The Episcopal Men’s Fellowship will host their famous fish fry and silent auction this Sunday, June 7 beginning at 4:30pm!

In addition to the regular auction items such as vacation getaways, special event, parties, and collector's items in the auction, the Cork Pull returns this year. St. Jude Center Dinner


Join us as we serve dinner to the folks at St. Jude Center. To participate we ask that you select and prepare food listed in the sign-up and join us at 4:45pm on June 9 to help serve our neighbors. Please sign-up by June 8 so we can prepare.


College Student Connections


Returning college students and recent high school graduates are invited to join us at 6:00pm on Jun 11 for pizza and fellowship and to re-connect with your fellow Fig collegians! We will provide pizza and soft drinks. Low key, low pressure—just fellowship!

Figs with Kids Summer Swim Party


Make a splash with Figs with Kids at our Summer Swim Party! Join us on next Saturday, June 13 from 10:00am–12:00pm at the Greenwood Hills Community Pool for a fun morning of swimming, donuts, and fellowship. Come cool off, connect with other families, and kick off summer together! All families are welcome. There is a requested donation of $10 per person, with proceeds going to support the Figs With Kids ministry.

Solemn Evensong for Evelyn Underhill


The Transfiguration Choir will lead an evening service honoring English mystic and writer Evelyn Underhill on Sunday, June 14, at 5:00pm in the church. Featured music will include Joel Martinson’s Evening Service for Church of the Nativity and Preces & Responses for the Mississippi Conference. Howard Helvey’s O lux beatissima will be sung as the Introit, and Sarah MacDonald’s O sacrum convivium will be the Anthem. The Rev. Maddie Hill will officiate and the Rev. Casey Shobe will preach. A reception will follow in the Gathering Space.

Join us as we serve dinner to our neighbors at Austin Street center. This month we are service on Wednesday, June 17 from 5:00pm to 7:30pm.



Be A Part of the Congregational Retreat

Children's Chapel


Each Sunday we host Children’s Chapel where kids are able to experience scripture, prayer, song, and worship in a way they can understand and enjoy. Children are able to attend this service while parents attend the regular Sunday Holy Eucharist at 9:00am. We meet on in the Gathering Space prior to the service.
