Chinese Court Orders 6 Companies to Pay $26 Million for Polluting
A court in eastern China has ordered six companies to pay fines totaling about $26 million for discharging waste acid into two waterways, according to the court's microblog account. The fine, 160 million renminbi, is the biggest of any Chinese environmental pollution case and seems to signal that officials are trying to crack down on companies that have steadily degraded much of China's land, water and air. Teichert, a private company, is an infrastructure and site development contractor and a construction materials producer. The purpose of this role is to lead Teichert's efforts to continuously improve its Safety, Health, and Environmental Programs. The emphasis of this role will be to lead, educate, train and support the field in best management practices related to Safety. This position oversees the study of accidents and potential risks, compiles reports, recommends preventative or corrective safety actions, and effectively trains employees on safety programs. This role assists with establishing Corporate Safety and Environmental policies and administering Teichert's Injury Prevention, Safety and Environmental Programs. Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health/Safety, (or related field) or equivalent combination of technical training and related experience is required along with a minimum of ten years' experience in/knowledge of construction/industrial safety or equivalent combinations of technical training and related experience. CSP preferred, 5 years management experience preferred.

The American Chemistry Council (ACC), a national trade association representing the world's leading chemical and plastics manufacturers, currently has an opportunity for a Director, Environment & Process Safety for its Regulatory and Technical Affairs division. The position is responsible for serving as an advocate and technical resource for the American Chemistry Council's process and worker safety advocacy efforts, as well issues arising under the Occupational Safety and Health Act and select environmental regulatory issues. The position is also responsible for coordinating related technical and regulatory support to other ACC divisions and departments, including product- and sector-specific groups. The position reports directly to the Senior Director, Environment and Process. A Bachelor's degree is required but a Master's degree in scientific and/or technical area preferred. 3 years project/policy issue management experience is required, three plus years chemical or related industry experience preferred.
