Notes from the Chair: Expect the Worst!

By expecting the worst, I mean the worst from the Republicans at every level. We are seeing Trump doubling down on his law and order and conspiracy themes to scare white folks into voting for him.  Cornyn, Roy and Biedermann are following his lead. Locally, we are called, socialists, communists , fascists and much worse. They will steal our campaign signs and put lies in the newspapers. We must answer with hard work, integrity, decency and more hard work. At this time in 2016, Hillary had a 12% lead about the same as Joe has now.  We must not relax until November 4 . I know that virtual fatigue is setting in but there is so much to do and the KCDP needs all of you to step up and help.

Trump is not an outlier, he represents what the Republican Party has become. It all started with Ronald Reagan and was pushed to new heights of demagoguery by Newt Gingrich. According to Princeton Historian, Julian Zelizer, “Ever since Republicans opened the doors to Gingrich, the Republican Party has never been the same. Gingrich pioneered the kind of tear-down the institution’s partisanship, where the imperatives of governance are always secondary, that continues to define the party to this day. It drives elected officials to constantly push the boundaries of what is legitimate in the name of partisan warfare. The party gatekeepers of yesteryear opened the doors to all of this. In 2020, not only can the so-called “establishment” not contain the renegades, the renegades have become the establishment. If there is any establishment figures left who feels qualms about Trump’s presidency, most will shove those concerns aside because Gingrich and Trump have helped maintain their power.”
As Democrats we are an excitingly diverse group of people and views. We welcome that diversity. It is our strength. We will need all our strength to turn our country around. We will need a leader with honor, integrity, knowledge and courage. Joe Biden was not on the top of my list when the primary season started but he has sure come on strong and has established himself as the future of this country. He must first win the election then bring the country together so we can start to solve the big problems that we face.  This is a classic fight of good against evil.  So please, contact us and volunteer. Be sure to “Vote Blue” and remember don’t stop at the top, vote for every Democrat.

Thank you for your support of the KCDP.

Kevin Henning
Kendall County Democratic Chair

We may look around at the world and wonder, “What can I do to make it better?”

We may not think we have the talents or skills required, or we may worry that our individual efforts may be too small to make a difference. And right now, we may wonder how to get involved safely, in ways that protect ourselves and others from COVID-19.
We want you to know at this critical moment in history: whatever your talents or skills and whatever your interests, you can use them to help bring about change for the better. And you can join many others doing the same — and our collective actions can be both safe and very effective.
So what’s your talent? What’s your interest? Whether you’re into writing, texting, social media, art/graphic design, talking on the phone, data management, networking with people, training or presenting, your help is just what we need! Here’s how you can make a difference between now and November!

Please share with your friends and family!
Court of Criminal Appeals

Why is this office important?
The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals is the court of last resort for all criminal matters in Texas. The Court chooses which cases it will hear. Capital punishment cases are automatically appealed to the Court. (The Texas Supreme Court is the appeals court for civil matters.) The Court of Criminal Appeals has a presiding judge and eight other judges, all elected statewide. Currently, all judges on the Court are Republican. We need Democratic judges on this Court to ensure the fair and equitable application of justice. Three Places on the Court have Democratic candidates:

Elizabeth Davis Frizell Judge
Court of Criminal Appeals Pl 3

Elizabeth Davis Frizell was a judge of the Dallas County Criminal District Court No. 7 from 2007-2017. She is a graduate of Prairie View A&M University and from Texas Southern University (JD). She has 20 years of judicial experience and 26 years of legal experience. She was awarded the Outstanding Judge of the Year by the J.L. Turner Legal Association in 2003 and 2007. Her goal is to bring balance to the highest Criminal Court in the State of Texas and ensure fairness in the trial process and sentencing.

Tina Clinton Judge
Court of Criminal Appeals Pl 4

Judge Tina Clinton currently presides over the Texas Criminal District Court 1 in Dallas. She was elected to this position in 2018 after serving for eight years as Judge of Dallas County Criminal Court 8. Judge Clinton is known for fairness and efficiency. During her time in County Criminal Court, she reduced the court's backlogged docket by 50 percent.
Judge Clinton has deep and diverse legal experience. As a defense lawyer, prosecutor and judge, she has conducted more than 400 criminal trials. She was elected to the Board of the Texas Center for the Judiciary by her judicial peers.

Brandon Birmingham Judge
Court of Criminal Appeals Pl 9

Judge Birmingham is a judge of the 292 nd  District Court in Dallas. During his first term, he was honored by the Dallas County Felony Judiciary by being appointed as the Presiding Judge of all the Felony District Courts. He has practiced trial work, both as a judge and a prosecutor, for nearly 20 years. He promises to make justice the top priority for all Texans.
