Frequently we get confused with God’s part and people’s part. What I mean by that is our expectations. In the above verses, David questions God’s faithfulness in the beginning and then ends with people will reject us, but God will not. God tells us he will always receive us when we come to him, and he will never leave us. We can trust Him!
But people are different. People are merely human beings with cracks! So when we see their imperfections, sometimes it is hard because we have grown accustomed to how well God has treated us! Or we expect them to love in our giftedness, which they may not possess.
You see, we as Christians are called to reflect the likeness of Christ. Often it is within our giftedness. If you have done a Spiritual Gifts inventory, you know what I am talking about! We all have a sweet spot or a gift where we love people as Jesus loved! Whether it is through compassion, service, gifts, or encouragement, we all reflect the goodness of God as Christians, but not all in the same way. When we experience a gift from others, we are amazed and sometimes tempted to attach to that person because of their gift. But we also detach when we see other’s cracks. This is why we look to God to fulfill our needs and expectations because then He has the whole body of Christ to utilize, and He understands and will help us! Our expectations should move towards God and His goodness and towards gratitude that people have chosen to give of their gifts.
I have been amazed at how God has shown up through life’s journey and also amazed at the people He has used (and I am sure you have too)!
You see, God is doing great things among us, so we who are called have to keep doing good, so His mission will be complete! We are bringing heaven to earth when we do His will, and with that, people experience His glory! So people of God keep shining! Who knows what God will do through you? And when we keep shining, we will change the world!!
