During a recent 14-day voyage from Colón to Valparaíso, MS Roald Amundsen set a new HX Hurtigruten Expeditions record with 1,416 wildlife observations logged on iNaturalist. The expedition documented a massive 335 species, making it the most wildlife ever recorded on iNaturalist during a HX Hurtigruten Expeditions sailing.

Setting out from UNESCO-listed Valparaíso in Chile, we journey to beautiful La Serena and Iquique, the gateway to the Atacama Desert. From sunny Arica, we head to Paracas, stopping at the Ballestas Islands – Peru’s answer to Galápagos. After exploring Lima – a South American culinary destination – we plan to land at Salaverry and tour the remains of ancient civilizations around Trujillo including Chan Chan, the largest adobe city in the Americas. Our voyage continues to Puerto López where we explore the biodiversity hotspot of Parque National Machalilla, and while in Manta we’ll visit Montecristi, the home of the Panama hat. Cébaco Island in Panama is a hidden gem, and the national parks near Golfito and Quepos in Costa Rica are packed with stunning scenery and wildlife such as toucans, iguanas, sloths and monkeys. Starting in Oslo and setting sail from Longyearbyen, this concentrated voyage takes you through untouched snowscapes with serene fjords, snowcapped mountains and glittering glaciers. You’ll discover the incredible scenery of Northwest Spitsbergen National Park, see the highlights of western Svalbard and get an understanding of climate science in Ny-Ålesund. Long days under the Midnight Sun and lingering winter ice give us a great opportunity to spot Arctic wildlife. Svalbard contains vast and pristine nature reserves where few humans ever set foot.
