SEPTEMBER 13, 2021 - Krasl Art Center (KAC) and the Coastline Children's Film Festival (CCFF) have combined forces once again for the return of ‘Flick-or-Treat.’ There are two evenings dedicated to Halloween-themed classic films this year.
On October 15, visit the new home of CCFF in their storefront offices in Sawyer, MI, for an indoor screening of “The Old Dark House” (1932, 72 Min).
Head to KAC in St. Joseph on October 29 to decorate your own pumpkin to display at KAC and then enjoy 10 projected silent films with a live piano accompaniment from Dr. Larry Shanker on KAC’s grounds. Pull up a blanket, enjoy popcorn, coffee or hot cocoa from Red Arrow Roasters, and experience these classic silent films with the whole family just in time for Halloween. A $2 suggested donation supports CCFF and KAC collaborations.
Guests will be required to adhere to current COVID safety protocols. In the event of inclement weather, the outdoor portion of the event will take place on October 30 at the same time and location (KAC’s outdoor campus). This year’s feature film, THE OLD DARK HOUSE (1932), a comedy horror directed by James Whale, will be screened indoors at Coastline’s storefront space in the Flynn Theatre Bldg at 5861 Sawyer Rd in Sawyer MI on October 15 at 7:00 PM. Initially deemed a lost film, it was restored by the George Eastman Museum and has garnered widespread critical acclaim. It is now recognized as both a cult-classic and one of the director’s most significant works.
On October 29 starting at 8 PM, experience 10 classic silent short films projected onto KAC’s south-facing wall accompanied by an improvisational piano performance by Dr. Larry Shanker, Executive Director and Music Specialist for the Brookview Montessori School. Bring blankets, chairs, and friends to this family-friendly outdoor fall event!

Calling all Pumpkin Artists!
Be a part of the event and showcase YOUR carved or decorated pumpkin to a Community Pumpkin Walk on view all weekend. Simply come by KAC on October 29 from 7–8 PM and decorate to your heart's content! The display will be illuminated evenings through October 31.
Looking for more pumpkin artmaking experiences? With advanced registration, the community can pick up paint and miniature pumpkins on October 9 from 11 AM - 12:30 PM as part of KAC’s free Family Day. Learn more and register at krasl.org/youth/classes.
