Wrapping Up a Semester to Remember!

As the semester winds down and the weather finally begins to warm up, there's a renewed energy across campus. From final performances and gallery showcases to students preparing for final papers and exams, it’s clear we’re in the homestretch.

This April, we’re excited to celebrate a few major highlights. First, we officially launched our new Sports Media Production certificate through the Department of Communication and Media. This is an exciting opportunity for students passionate about storytelling, athletics, and media. We’ve also expanded our digital presence with the launch of the College of Arts and Humanities LinkedIn account. We invite you to follow us and stay connected with the incredible work happening across our departments.

Looking for a way to support student artists before the semester ends? Join us on April 18 from 11:30 AM to 2 PM in Sykes 115 for a student-led art sale organized by student ambassador Abby Banks. It’s a wonderful chance to discover unique, original pieces and support WCU’s creative community.

We’re also preparing for Commencement next month, which is always a meaningful time to celebrate our graduating students and all they’ve accomplished. Whether they’re heading into careers, graduate school, or taking time to explore what’s next, we couldn’t be prouder.

As always, we encourage everyone to take advantage of the final weeks of spring programming. This includes RENT on the MainStage Theatre from April 3 to 6 and the revolving student art displays at the E.O. Bull Center. These final performances and exhibits are a great reminder of the talent and passion that define the Arts and Humanities here at WCU.

To our supporters, alumni, and friends: thank you for continuing to champion the arts and humanities at West Chester University. Your engagement, encouragement, and enthusiasm help make our work possible—both inside the classroom and beyond it. We hope you’ll stay connected, join us for future events, and celebrate the many accomplishments of our students, faculty, and graduates.

Wishing you a joyful spring and a restorative summer,

Dean Jen Bacon

STUDENT SPOTLIGHT

🎭 Meet Giulia Pagano and Alivia Bentley— CARHU Ambassadors Bringing RENT to Life!

This month, we’re thrilled to highlight Giulia and Alivia, two standout student leaders involved in the upcoming production of RENT. Alivia takes the stage as a member of the ensemble and serves as Co-Dance Captain, while Giulia plays a pivotal behind-the-scenes role as the show’s Props Master. Both also serve as dedicated ambassadors for the College of Arts and Humanities.

In our newest video, they share what RENT means to them in their own words—offering a glimpse into the heart of the show, their personal connections to its themes, and the experience of bringing such a powerful production to life. From navigating the emotional depth of performance to building friendships during rehearsals, Giulia and Alivia give us a behind-the-scenes look at the creative process and the community they’ve found through theatre.

As CARHU ambassadors, they embody the spirit of our college: bold, expressive, and dedicated to making meaningful connections through the arts. Their leadership shines both on stage and behind the curtain, and we’re so proud to feature them this month.

Watch the video to step behind the scenes with Giulia and Alivia!

FACULTY FEATURE

Meet Associate Professor Juliet Wunsch!

We’re proud to spotlight another recipient of this year’s Provost Research Grants.

Juliet Wunsch, associate professor of scenic and lighting design and chair of the Department of Theatre and Dance, is an award-winning designer whose work has been featured at renowned venues such as the Walnut Street Theatre, Merriam Theatre, and Drexel’s Mandell Theatre.

Her project, Glimma I Mörkret (Glimmer in the Darkness), is an interactive exhibit that explores the intersection of Swedish theatre and pageantry—from 18th-century Stockholm to modern-day celebrations of St. Lucia in Sweden and the Swedish-American community.

Using theatrical techniques like staging, lighting, costuming, and sound, the exhibit highlights cultural traditions and the evolution of performance as a form of storytelling and social reflection. It will be showcased at WCU, the American Swedish Historical Museum, and presented at the Society for the Advancement of Scandinavian Study Conference.
