Kern River

The Kern River is an Endangerd, Wild and Scenic river that runs approximately 165 miles from a High Sierra basin northwest of Mt. Whitney to the Buena Vista Lake basin. The headwaters of the kern or the North Fork are surrounded by the Great Western Divide, Kings-Kern Divide and the main Sierra Crest. In Kernville the river emerges from the narrow Sierra Nevada Canyon and pours in Lake Isabella where it is joined by the South Fork. From here the river would continue southwest to Bakersfield where it would have emptied into the now dry Buena Vista Lake.
