Medicare Open Enrollment Just A Few Months Away

We’re just a few months away from Medicare’s Open Enrollment, and this year’s lineup of changes is one of the biggest we’ve seen in years. Here’s what to expect:


  • Part B Premiums are projected (not confirmed) to rise to $206.50/month—that’s $21.50 more than 2025. 


  • Part D Deductible & Out-of-Pocket Cap will climb to a $615 deductible (confirmed- up $25), and the cap on prescription drug expenses—indexed for inflation—is now $2,100 (confirmed- up from $2,000).


If you have a Medicare supplement (Medigap), you’ve likely noticed significant rate increases this year. Now is the perfect time to shop around and see if you qualify for a lower-priced policy—let me help you compare your options and lock in the best rate before Open Enrollment begins.


Drug plans will also face major shake-ups. In 2025 many carriers left the market amid the Inflation Reduction Act’s rollout, and we anticipate further exits, higher copays (even on medications you once paid little or nothing for), and steeper premiums. Remember: your Part D plan should be reviewed every year to make sure it still covers YOUR medications at YOUR preferred pharmacy.


Even with good Part D and Medigap coverage, Original Medicare still has gaps. Skilled nursing facility care is limited to 100 days, and days 21–100 can come with significant copays. Medicare doesn’t cover long-term custodial care, and any diagnosis of cancer, heart attack, or stroke often leads to expenses for things like experimental treatments, prescription deductibles and copays, special dietary foods, travel and lodging, home modifications, assistance with daily living, alternative therapies, cosmetic procedures, and more.

Understanding Reverse Mortgages

A reverse mortgage is a special type of home loan available to homeowners 62 and older. With a reverse mortgage you still own your home. Your name remains on the title. The loan is repaid when you sell, move out permanently, or pass away. Any remaining equity goes to you or your heirs. 

 

A reverse mortgage allows you to convert a portion of your home's equity into cash. The amount a senior can receive depends on their age, home value and current interest rates. You can qualify for a reverse even if you have an existing mortgage, as long as the proceeds are enough to pay off the current loan.

 

Unlike traditional mortgages where you make monthly payments, you are not required to make a monthly mortgage payment on a reverse mortgage. You are responsible to pay property taxes, homeowners insurance and keeping the home in good condition.
