Make Your Summer Colorful
Whether you have a small balcony or a large plot, you can add a burst of color to your outdoor scenery. Summer annuals can tolerate heat, grow up to 18 inches, and display vibrant colors, creating an attractive aesthetic. Although most require full sun, some can tolerate shade. Look for these popular plants at your local garden center:
- Begonia
- Celosia
- Coleus
- Globe Amaranth
- Marigold
- Petunia
- Vinca
Don't forget to plant the flowers in well-drained fertile soil and allow room for growth and airflow, which helps prevent disease. Use one or two inches of fine organic mulch, such as cypress mulch, pine bark, or pine straw to help control weeds and keep the soil evenly moist.

Balance Your Health
With so many different diet and fitness trends, you may feel unsure about what to follow. But a good strategy considers both healthy eating and physical activity. While physical activity accounts for 15 to 30 percent of daily energy expenditure, food accounts for 100 percent of energy intake, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Balance your healthy eating consumption with your physical activity exertion, adjusting accordingly to gain or lose weight.
