Dear Fellow Creative Pilgrims,

Imagine walking among ancient temples draped in prayer flags, watching the sunrise touch the Himalayan peaks, and photographing moments of presence that shimmer with soul. I'll be doing just this in January 2026 and I'd love you to join me. Nepal is a unique country and my trip there this past January was transformative.

Together with Lora Murphy and the Essence of Mulranny retreat team, we’ll wander the lively streets of Kathmandu, visit the sacred stupas of Bhaktapur, Patan Durbar Square, and Boudha Stupa, all UNESCO heritage sites, and rest in the serene mountain town of Pokhara, nestled at the foot of the Annapurna range. In Pokhara you'll enjoy floating in a colorful boat on Lake Phewa and learn how to use Tibetan singing bowls from a Nepalese sound healer.

Along the way, we’ll explore how photography can become a meditative, soulful practice—a way of listening deeply and creating images that reflect what moves and awakens us.

Through mindful image-making, visual journaling on handmade Nepalese paper, and gentle guidance in symbolic seeing, you’ll connect outer landscapes with your inner landscape. You’ll return home not only with meaningful images, but with a hand-stitched visual journal, filled with reflections, textures, and stories of your journey.

We will have daily excursions and art making, and I'll share some of my favorite things made by the people of Nepal and Tibet - mandalas, malas, singing bowls, paper, and so much more.

This trip includes supporting the local community through Bodhisattvas in Action, a ten hour sound healing course, creating a visual journal with photographs, stitching with gold thread, flying from Kathmandu to Pokhara in the foothills of the Himalayas, and more as you'll see from the Essence of Mulranny website.

Dates: January 16 to 27, 2026

Getting to Kathmandu: I'm flying Qatar Airlines from the US to Doha and then from Doha to Kathmandu. There are a couple of us going on the same flight and if you like to travel in company you can book the same flights. You'll be met at the Kathmandu airport, and driven to our comfortable hotel in Kathmandu. Compared to my recent long flights from South Africa, getting to Kathmandu is easy!

You are also welcome to email me with any questions, and I'd be happy to chat with you to let you know more about what to expect.

I'm honored that Lora Murphy of Essence of Mulranny invited me to offer the creative experiences for this retreat, and I hope you can join me for this opportunity.

I went home with a number of hand-painted Mandalas!

Travel and change of place impart new vigor to the mind.
