You Can Give Input on Possible Access-on-Demand Changes

RTD is considering cuts to a popular paratransit service called Access-on-Demand. If you have an opinion on these changes, you can give your feedback on or before September 30!

Access-on-Demand (AoD) is a service offered by RTD to people with qualifying disabilities. Through AoD, customers can book a ride through participating rideshare companies (like Uber and Lyft), and RTD will pay part of the cost for that ride, with certain limitations.

RTD staff members say this program has become unsustainably expensive to run and are recommending cuts. As of September 10, here is the proposal for AoD that the RTD board is considering, per an RTD board document:

  • Standard fare: $6.50 upfront base fare/$3.25 for LiVE eligible customers
  • Trip cap: 60/month
  • Trip subsidy: $20/trip
  • Service area: All locations within current RTD service area
  • Service window: Current AaR (Access-a-Ride) service hours
  • Waiting Period: No waiting period to begin using AoD once certified as paratransit eligible
  • Multi-stop trips: Customers may schedule multi-stop trips with a maximum of two destinations per origin utilizing providers that allow multi-stop functionality, with the initial destination not counting toward the monthly trip cap or requiring an associated base fare
  • Effective date of modifications: January 1, 2026

Click here to read a brief analysis of AoD including cost projections and potential adverse effects on Access-a-Ride.

Additionally, click here to view a letter from disability advocates and community members opposing the proposed changes.

The board is expected to vote on these cuts at its next board meeting. This will take place at 5:30pm on September 30.

Want to give feedback? You can attend the RTD board meeting and sign up during the meeting to speak. The meeting agenda and virtual meeting information will be posted here before the meeting. You can also submit your comments in writing by emailing RTD.Directors@rtd-denver.com.
