Welcoming Board Member Brian Allison

We’re thrilled to be welcoming Brian Allison to our board of directors! Brian joined our board this past June, stepping into the role of board secretary.

As a family member to a sister with medical needs and a parent to children on the autism spectrum, Brian has long been passionate about working to ensure that people with disabilities can access the same opportunities as those without disabilities. Additionally, Brian brings another important perspective to our board as a professional in disability services, having worked for more than a decade as a direct support professional and job coach before founding a Program Approved Service Agency (PASA) in 2017.

Free Guide: Prepare for Your Next Doctor's Appointment

Ensure your needs are met at every medical appointment. Through a free digital guide from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), you can find helpful guidance on getting the care you need at medical appointments as a person with a disability.

In this guide, you will learn the following about medical appointments:

  • What are your rights? This includes things that providers cannot do, such as refuse to serve you because of a disability.
  • What should you do if you experience difficulties? Difficulties could include unfair treatment or other issues.
  • What steps should you take before, during, and after your appointment to ensure all of your needs are met? For example, what questions should you ask the receptionist when you book your appointment?

The guide is available in eight different languages. Click here to read the free guide.

See How Accessible Birdwatching Can Be with Birdability

Calling all nature-lovers! Birdability, a nationwide nonprofit, is on a mission to make the world of birding accessible to people with disabilities and other health conditions.

The nonprofit has free resources on its website to help people with all types of disabilities participate in birding, also known as birdwatching, whether they are new to the hobby or have been birding for years. Resources include a map of potential birding locations with information on accessibility, as well as a map showing upcoming group outings where you can enjoy birding alongside others from the Birdability community.
