Parks and Recreation Month

July 1–31

In July, St. Johns County celebrates Parks and Recreation Month, focusing on how parks and recreation foster community belonging. Since 1985, the US has honored this month to highlight the importance of parks and recreation in building strong communities.

Night Under the Stars

August 29 | 8 – 9:30 p.m.

Learn about the night sky—constellations, star names, and more—from the Ancient City Astronomy Club in this hands-on stargazing event.

Outdoor Programs

Popsicles in the Park

July 16 | 10 – 11 a.m.

Bring the little ones to Trout Creek Park for icy popsicles, bubbles, sidewalk chalk, family-friendly tunes, and more!

Sunset Paddleboarding

July 18 | 6 – 9 p.m.

Enjoy a guided tour of Hallowes Cove by paddleboat, ending with a view of the sunset over the St. Johns River.

All Abilities Paddle

July 19 | 6:30 – 9 p.m.

Come on a trip designed for individuals who need adaptations due to physical or mental disabilities (and their families).

PGA Junior Golf League

July 21 | 7 a.m. – 1 p.m.

A fun and exciting way for your child to experience golf as part of a team, enjoying friendly competition in a league format.

Popsicles in the Park

July 26 | 10 – 11 a.m.

Bring the little ones to Ron Parker Park for icy popsicles, bubbles, sidewalk chalk, family-friendly tunes, and more!

Popsicles in the Park

July 30 | 10 – 11 a.m.

Bring the little ones to Mills Field for icy popsicles, bubbles, sidewalk chalk, family-friendly tunes, and more!

Sole Striders: Walk with Ease

August 7, 12, 14, 19, and 21 | 8:30 – 9:30 a.m.

Work together on personal and group fitness goals through two-mile walks at the Solomon Calhoun Center punctuated with exercises aimed at combating arthritis.

Veterans Kayaking

August 14 | 7:30 – 8:30 p.m.

Military veterans can join St. Johns County's experienced guides on a sunset kayaking trip down Trout Creek.

Dolphin Walk

August 14 and 15 | 7 – 8 p.m.

Meet us for a guided walk around Vilano Beach, all about dolphins! If you're lucky, you just might see some.

Veterans Archery

August 20 | 7:15 – 8:30 p.m.

Practice the finer points of bow and arrow in a program designed in partnership with Veterans Affairs.

Nature Book Club

August 20 | 9:30 – 10:30 a.m.

Join us for an outdoor book club celebrating our natural areas; this month's book is The Invention of Nature: Alexander von Humboldt's New World by Andrea Wulf.

Youth Archery Club

August 20 | 6 – 7:15 p.m.

This program will introduce kids 12 and older to the fundamentals of archery and allow them to practice their new skills in a group setting.

Paddleboard Fishing

August 23 | 6 - 8:30 p.m.

Join St. Johns County's experienced guides on a paddleboard fishing trip through Trout Creek at sunset.

Veterans Fishing

August 27 | 9 – 11 a.m.

Brush up on your fishing skills (focusing on types of rods and reels) in a hands-on program designed in partnership with Veterans Affairs.
