Through September 2022, customers will have access to six top online learning platforms made available through funding from the California State Library and the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) Workforce Development & Support program. No matter your skills or learning level, we have a training option for you.

Over the next 6 weeks, we will feature each of the learning platforms and all that they offer. Here are the tools:

EARN YOUR HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA
New year, new you! Sign up to get your high school diploma free through Redwood City Public Library. Career Online High School offers adults the opportunity to complete their high school education and gain career training through a self-paced, supportive and accredited online education program.

Quick Facts:
  • Earn an accredited high school diploma while preparing for a career
  • Transfer credits from previous high school courses
  • Take classes online, giving you the flexibility for 24/7 access to schoolwork
  • Students will be given up to 18 months to complete the program.
  • Be supported by certified instructors and academic coaches who care about your success
  • Gain career readiness with a portfolio including a resume, cover letter and job preparation support
  • A limited number of scholarships are provided by the Redwood City Library Foundation

LEARN A NEW LANGUAGE
January is a great time to learn a new language, and we can help! Pronunciator is an online resource that has 163 languages with self-directed lessons, live teachers, movies, music, and more. There are also ESL courses taught in 146 home languages for those of you on your English learning journey. There's an American Sign Language course too, with 20,000 instructional videos. All you need is a library card to get started.

Activity bags containing books, craft materials, activities and a link to a recorded program will be available at the Youth Services desk at the Downtown Library starting at 2:00, while supplies last.

Bri Crabtree’s Silly Circus Show is offered over Zoom. 

TUE JAN 18, 6pm and SAT JAN 22, 11am
The group is open to all non-native English language speakers who are interested in developing their speaking fluency. The group meets via Zoom for one hour.

WED JAN 19, 4pm
Join RCPL librarians for a virtual Early Learners storytime filled with recorded stories, activities and tips on early literacy. For families with children from birth to 2.

TUE JAN 25, 10am
Join us for Storytimes in the Park: Magical Bridge Playground! On the 4th Tuesday of each month a librarian will be at Magical Bridge Playground.

LIBRARY SERVICE UPDATE
Below is a list of services available at this time.

  • All Redwood City Public Library locations are open for restored hours and services. Visit our RCPL Limited Edition page for hours, services, safety guidelines, and more.
  • Curbside drop-in service for holds pick-up is available at the Downtown Library during open hours
  • Bookdrops are open to accept returns
  • Computers for public use are available at all locations
  • Our events are online and outside! Check our calendar here.
  • Meeting rooms at 25% capacity are open to the public, more information here.
  • Borrow eBooks and eAudiobooks; use streaming TV, movie, and music services; and access digital subscriptions to newspapers and magazines here.
  • Online resources are available to current card holders and new cardholders. Don't have a card? Sign up here
