Six Seeds of Knowledge grants awarded!

We have awarded Seeds of Knowledge Library Demonstration Garden Grants to six public libraries across the state — doubling the original number of planned recipients thanks to additional funding. These grants will help establish or enhance native plant demonstration gardens that promote the beauty and ecological value of Florida’s wildflowers.

March Bloom Highlight: Know Your Native Rain Lilies


As spring showers begin, our beautiful Rain lilies start to bloom. While 10 species of rain lily (Zephyranthes spp.) occur in Florida, only two are native.

Join us on Wednesday, March 26 at 2pm for Saumya Vanderwyst’s presentation, Creating a Colorful Native World Inside an HOA, focused on improving the soil biome around new construction, modifying designs for mobility-restricted individuals, and harnessing native plant seasonality to meet homeowner’s association (HOA) landscaping demands. Come hear her journey and how she has worked together with her HOA board!

Join us on Saturday March 22 at 9am EST to explore the many habitats of Old Miakka Preserve in Sarasota County. We’ll be on the lookout for blooming wildflowers, including Prairie iris (Iris savannarum), Florida scrub roseling (Callisia ornata), Florida false sunflower (Phoebanthus grandiflorus) and more!

Join us on Saturday March 29 at 10am CST to learn about the endangered Frosted elfin butterfly and its habitat in the Blackwater River State Forest in Okaloosa County. FWC technician Mackenzie Sconyers will guide us to sites where the butterfly's host plant, Sundial lupine (Lupinus perennis), is being preserved through a variety of land management strategies.

Join us on Friday April 11 at 9am EST for a guided tour of the Lake Apopka North Shore in Lake County. An Eco-buggy will take us 1.5 miles to a sandhill restoration site at the northernmost end of the Lake Wales Ridge. Along the way, we’ll learn about the ongoing Lake Apopka restoration project, with a special focus on a sandhill restoration site at the northernmost end of the Lake Wales Ridge.

Join us on Saturday April 19 at 9:30am EST at River Oaks Preserve in Lee County. Guided by the FNPS Coccoloba Chapter, we'll explore this 12 acre property which includes a restoration area, native plant demonstration gardens and an on-site native plant nursery.

The 2nd annual Sandhills Celebration is two days of family-friendly fun celebrating all things Florida on April 12 and 13 in Fountain (Bay County). Botany in Context Webinar Series

a six-part webinar series with Jim Folsom, PhD.


This crash course in basic botany for the beginner will take us on a journey from understanding plant anatomy and physiology to learning how plants are named and the botanical jargon that will demystify plant keys and identification. Dr. Folsom will contextualize it all in Florida native plant communities.
