This Sunday - 10am
Sunday, November 1st, is All Saints Sunday and Communion Sunday. During our service, we will honor all who have died and gone on to glory in the past year. Remember departed loved ones by bringing a photo or memento to church. Then, set it on the table near the altar.
Rev. Britney Toner will preach the sermon. Our choir will sing the anthem led by our Minister of Music Nellwyn Beamon. See details in a block below.
The worship service begins each Sunday at 10am. Invite someone to go with you.
Enter the door at the top of the large staircase facing Stockley Gardens (road).

Pastor's Pick for the Week
Creator God, who formed us all from dust and Love -
Convict our hearts to recognize the evil in this world that claims to champion Your name while acting in opposition to Your ongoing work of justice, mercy, and peace. Shed light on the ways we have succumbed to the temptation to find belonging in the false certainty of an “us versus them” mentality. Be our strength and our guide, that we may work together to pursue Your truth, extend Your grace, and embody Your love for all people.
We pray together in the name of Christ, through the power of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.

Music for All Saint's Sunday
This Sunday's anthem is based on a tune in the Methodist’s FOUNDERY COLLECTION of 1742. Authorized by John Wesley, this was the first hymn-tune book published for Methodists to promote congregational singing. It contained English metrical psalms and Germanic Moravian tunes (among others) such as today’s tune AMSTERDAM, composed by Johann George Hille. Our text was written by Charles Wesley and found in the book HYMNS ON THE LORD’S SUPPER 1745 (the year Charles died). It is entirely probable that the first Methodists sang this hymn nearly 280 years ago.

Living Nativity Planning Meeting
Our Living Nativity will be Sunday, December 13, from 4:30 to 5:30pm. So we will have a planning meeting on Saturday, November 14, at 4:00pm at Café Stella (1907 Colonial Avenue). If you are interested in participating, please let Nellwyn know at music@ghentumc.org.
Last year, so many of the set dressings in our stable were on loan. If you have small lanterns, fake food, baskets, ropes or other items that would go into a stable, please consider making a donation.
This is one of our church’s largest outreach efforts and takes all hands in service. Besides the time and effort, it is FUN! See you on the 14th at Café Stella!

A Warm Embrace's Holiday Hugs Event
Hello Church Family,
I wanted to share details about the upcoming Holiday Hugs event hosted by A Warm Embrace, an organization supporting families affected by gun violence. Supporting these families during the winter holidays is especially meaningful, as it is often a time when grief is most deeply felt.
Event Details: December 12, 2026 ~ 12:00pm-3:00pm ~ East Ocean View Recreation Center, 9620 20th Bay St., Norfolk
Though we cannot repeat the event at our Church Hall because of the ongoing repair to flood damages, we can be at December's event with our support. Please let me know if you have any questions or would like to learn more.
Best regards, A Warm Embrace liaison, Regina E. Brisgone PhD

Children are Always Welcome at Ghent UMC
Our Children's Sunday School* takes place each Sunday during our worship service, following the children's message. All children are invited to begin the hour in our worship service. After the Children’s Message, children aged 3 through 5th grade are invited to attend Sunday School in our library, just down the hall from the sanctuary. Children are escorted back to the sanctuary during the song after the sermon. (Two adults are with the children at all times).
On Communion Sundays (usually the first Sunday of the month), children are invited to come back into the service to celebrate Communion alltogether with their church family.
*Sunday School is completely optional. You are welcome to keep your child(ren) in worship with you, if you prefer
Our professional workers, staff, and volunteers are fully background checked.
A baby changing station is in the sanctuary lobby. Go out the swinging door to the right of our Coffee Station. The changing station is near the staircase and restroom.
