Since the 1965 change in immigration laws, Chinatowns in Brooklyn (Sunset Park) and Queens (Flushing) have developed along with Manhattan’s traditional Chinatown. Flushing native and Queens Borough Historian, Jack Eichenbaum, leads a walk in Flushing focused on the transformation of this neighborhood. Wellington Chen, Executive Director of the Chinatown Partnership, leads a walk in Manhattan’s Chinatown. Joe Svehlak, Sunset Park native and preservationist will lead the walk there.
We begin with an (optional) dim sum meal in Flushing (beginning at 9:30 AM.) A light lunch in Manhattan is included. More optional eats are suggested in Sunset Park. Transportation from Flushing to Manhattan via public van is included in the price of the tour but transportation from Manhattan to Brooklyn will be by subway using your Metro card.
Fee $60 per person.

Now entering its 13th year, Make Music New York, “the largest music event ever to grace Gotham” (Metro New York), is a unique festival of 1,000+ free concerts in public spaces throughout the five boroughs of New York City, all on June 21st, the first day of summer.

3pm - Emily McNally is singer/songwriter from South Jersey and is currently based in Manhattan. Her music genre is piano pop, and her lyrics are heartfelt and written in a storytelling style. Emily's debut EP, 'Small Town', is a collection of five songs inspired by and dedicated to the town where she grew up and the memories created there. Emily's recent performance credits include the famous Bitter End in Greenwich Village, Manhattan and NYU's Ultra Violet Live at Skirball Center.
4pm - Annie (Yu Rong) was born and raised in Huai Nan City in the An Hui province of China. She has performed at many Chinese music venues.
5pm - Adel Ardalan, plays Iranian/Kurdish music on Tambour (an ancient middle-eastern lute). In his spare time he dances the Argentine tango and trains for running/triathlon races.

The man, who appears to be in his 20s, jumped over the gate at Sung Tak Buddhist Association on Pike Street in Chinatown around 7:40 p.m. on May 18 and smashed the statue with an unknown object before fleeing on foot, police said.
He was last seen wearing white pants and a black t-shirt, according to police.

An herbalist in Manhattan's Chinatown for over 20 years, he imports all of the herbs and teas in his shop from China. And many of them have increased in price since the US-China trade war began. Take goji berries, for example: a dried fruit popular in Chinese medicine, they have gone up from around $3 a pound to around $8 a pound.

Vietnamese boat refugees were rescued at sea, close to death, by the U.S. based cargo ship LNG Virgo in 1980. Once settled in the United States, one family of survivors embarks on a decades long search for the captain and crew of the ship that gave them new life.
Director Barre Fong and Producer Lauren Vuong will host a Q&A after screening.
