Greetings!

Join us in welcoming the warm embrace of spring and the lively promise of summer. Come celebrate and enjoy the signs of new life: daffodils blooming, robins, butterflies, and hummingbirds evoking wonder and awe throughout the Village.

With a renewed sense of spirit, we turn our focus to welcoming everyone to the wilderness. Villagers and amazing Work Week volunteers are hard at work de-winterizing the Village, preparing for the community, art, learning, and connection that will overflow this summer.

We eagerly anticipate the visit of Philorian Mpendaye, General Secretary of our Companion Synod, the Ulanga Kilombero Diocese of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Tanzania. The energy and enthusiasm of Texas Lutheran University students and May Youth Weekend fill the Village as the month unfolds and we head into summer.

Faithfully,
Stacy Kitahata, Mark Bach, and Kathie Bach
Join the Village for the first week that Holden Evening Prayer is sung in the Village for the summer! This year, we celebrate Holden Evening Prayer Around the World on June 3, 2023. You are invited to participate on any date or time that week!

We connect in spirit across time and space by singing and speaking the same prayers. Plan a gathering and add your event to our map of events around the globe!
The account of Eden expressed in the book of Genesis invites us to imagine life with God, a dance between humanity, earth, and spirit.

We are called to live as a community and practice Eden in our midst, here and now.

Join us this summer as we engage this foundational story, hearing and heeding Eden's call through teaching sessions, time in nature, and spiritual reflection.
Summer Teaching Faculty Spotlight
Glocal Musician Educators are a group that creates music influenced by global themes in communities throughout North America the Caribbean and beyond. The musicians embody what it means to be Glocal — simultaneously global and local — so we can accompany one another across cultures, even in our own neighborhoods (or remote mountain wildernesses!)

Join us between June 18th and June 30th during the 2nd and 3rd Cohorts to experience what it means to be Glocal!
Introducing Holden Village's New Pastor
The Village is thrilled to welcome Abby d'Ambruoso as the new Village pastor, starting in August. Abby is an ELCA minister of word and sacrament and a board certified hospital chaplain. She has served congregations in Northwest Washington and as a pediatrics and obstetrics interfaith chaplain in Portland, Maine.

Abby first visited Holden as a St. Olaf J-term student and returned as a volunteer during the first Abriendo Caminos. She is thrilled to share the experience of living at Holden with her family. Abby will work with together with our current Village pastor, Rev. Mark Griffith in the Village until he finishes his term with us in September, allowing for a smooth transition.
Do you want to spend this summer (or longer) living and working in the remote mountain wilderness? Volunteer with us!

Here are some the positions that are open now:
Practicing Our Faith: Hospitality
This month's theme is Hospitality. Gearing up for one of our peak seasons, we prepare the Village and ourselves to practice welcome.

The ancient texts, shared by Jews, Christians, and Muslims encourage us with stories and examples - Abraham and Sarah providing shelter for three strangers who turn out to be angels, the many times Jesus invited and broke bread with strangers. These stories affirm the transformational power of welcoming all, the blessing of seeking to know someone as they truly are, without judgment.

The divine knows and loves each of us, not just generally but particularly. This form of hospitality, of knowing others and being known for who we truly are, is one of the promises of Eden. True hospitality happens with intentionality, mutuality and with practice. Participate in community that practices transformational hospitality this summer, in the Village and beyond.
