Exploring Multiple Sclerosis

Aging Outreach Services is partnering with the Southern Pines Public Library to host a series of three free seminars to help families understand and navigate a Multiple Sclerosis (MS) diagnosis.

Exploring MS is designed to provide an open discussion to explore MS symptoms, the diagnosis, treatment plans, resources, and available support.

Seminars are scheduled for 4 p.m. on Jan 9, Jan 23, and Jan 30 at 170 W. Connecticut Avenue, Southern Pines.

Presenter: Ashley Seace

Seace is an Aging Life Care Professional with AOS Care Management and a Contracted Case Manager for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. She understands the challenges families face with a MS diagnosis. Seace states that “since completing the National MS training program, it has been an honor to meet with and support the needs of MS clients and their families. Chronic illnesses affect families physically, mentally, and financially.”

Each seminar will focus on sharing information and creating a support system for MS families.

  • Monday, Jan. 9 the discussion will focus on MS symptoms, getting an accurate diagnosis, what doctors diagnose, types of MS, common symptoms, and prognosis.

  • Monday, Jan. 23 the discussion will focus on treating MS and ways to alleviate the symptoms including medication and holistic options, therapies, and exercises.

  • Monday, Jan 30 the third discussion will focus on where to find resources and the types of services available both locally and nationally. Seace will share resources from the National MS Society, MS Focus Foundation, and local MS providers.

As a trained support group facilitator, Seace understands the value of accurate information and access to resources and support for both the person with a chronic illness and their families. Each seminar will include time for questions and opportunities for attendees to share information.
