Pieces of a Crystal Ball

During a Recovery Task Force discussion, the General Managers of a few large TMC/Agency PATA members shared their current challenges and needs with the reopening of travel. Given all the uncertainties, one expressed a wish to have a "crystal ball" to foresee how travel will reopen - this is exactly what we are trying to deliver as PATA. Except instead of one clear crystal ball, we all need to piece together our own views to the future from a multitude of sources. And do that frequently as the pandemic status, government policies, consumer sentiment and the war in Ukraine and other factors evolve.

My big thanks to all of my Women Travel Leader friends from across the region and around the world who supported our month-long International Women's Day campaign. Expo Turismo International was the first post-pandemic face-to-face exhibition organized by the Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture of Panama. The event was held at the new Panama Convention Center on the Amador Causeway. This venue was recently inaugurated and considered one of the most modern in Latin America.

Monique de Saint Malo, president of the Organizing Commission of Expo Turismo International 2022, indicated that this exhibition aims to promote the growth of the tourism industry in the country. In addition, it seeks that exhibitors and buyers take advantage of the opportunity to establish business contacts with wholesalers, tour operators, congress organizers, among others, interested in the Latin American tourist offer and under one roof.

The Minister of Tourism and General Administrator of the Panama Tourism Authority, Hon Ivan Eskildsenas, and the president of SKAL International Burcin Turkkan were key speakers at the inauguration of Expo Turismo 2022.

March is a beautiful time to visit Panama, and get to know everything that Panama has to offer. Panama has the Caribbean, the Pacific, the Highlands, the beach, the sea, the Canal, and a lot more to offer visitors. Panama is the home of COPA Airlines, a Star Alliance Airline that has been connecting North America, the Caribbean, Central, South America, and also Europe and the rest of the world. COPA made Panama an aviation hub and made Panama easily accessible to the Americas for business and tourism.

Norwegian Cruise Line is returning Norwegian Jewel to service, and will be NCL’s first ship sailing from Panama City beginning 24 November 2022. Through the end of March 2023, Norwegian Jewel will offer a total of eight Panama Canal roundtrip cruises ranging from eight-to-10-days.
