#1 New Booths- The booths we saw were old. The one that stood out the most had new signs, which included 12-ft flags on poles, an 8'x10' colorful backdrop, and sidewalls.
Takeaway- If you can put in your budget a new table cloth with your logo, and a tabletop or retractable banner, you will be ahead of your competition.
#2 Sales Re-Training- You could see many of the salespeople were a little rusty in their presentation skills. Veterans of the industry were even a little off.
Takeaway- Have your team do some role-playing before the show. Here they can refresh each other on the main topics that need to be conveyed about your company. Also, remind each other of best practices that have worked in the past.
#3 Raffle or Big Giveaway- We did not see any fishbowls or big prize giveaways from anyone. This is always a great way to build your contact list. I know you can get a full list of the registrants from the show and many vendors scan badges these days, but there was no visual to build excitement around the booths.
Takeaway- Our client, Property Debt Research, does a great job here. They give out big baskets full of goodies or Yeti-type coolers. After the show, we send out a picture with the winner and a thank you to all who dropped their card off for the raffle. This is a great touchpoint, as nobody ever sees who wins those raffles, plus you get in front of potential customers once again.
If you are thinking about an upcoming expo, give me a call and we can brainstorm some trade show ideas together.
