Missouri Work Zone Safe teaches teens to drive safely

Free training course launched at TRACTION conference

A new effort to teach teens how to drive safely through work zones has launched in Missouri.

On March 23, student traffic safety leaders from 11 Missouri schools were joined by MoDOT, MSHP and other safety advocates to announce the launch of Missouri Work Zone Safe, a free online educational course that teaches new drivers work zone safety and how to share the road with first responders.

All teen drivers are encouraged to take this course. Teens who complete the course can enter to win a $500 Work Zone Safe scholarship.

The program launch happened during the annual TRACTION Youth Traffic Safety Leadership Conference in Columbia. Teens Taking Action to Prevent Traffic Crashes (TRACTION) is a statewide program sponsored by MoDOT which empowers young people to take an active role in promoting safe driving habits. You can view photos from the event on MoDOT's Flickr page.

The FIFA World Cup 2026 is coming — start planning now!

The FIFA World Cup 2026 will be held June 11-July 19 with Kansas City as a hub city for six matches. With increased out-of-state traffic expected, MoDOT is working with local partners to minimize traffic impacts as we prepare to welcome the hundreds of thousands of attendees from around the world. The ConnectKC26 site was created as a transportation information hub for attendees to learn about attractions in the area and local transit options.

Closures planned for MO 47 bridge replacement project

As part of the Improve I-70: Warrenton to Wentzville project, the MO Route 47 bridge was removed to make way for a new bridge at that location. While the new bridge is being constructed, there will be no north-south access across I-70 at this location, but all ramps will remain open. Other traffic impacts will be in place along the route with signed detours throughout summer 2026. Learn more about the project and watch a video of the construction timeline.

Just planting the seed: Be patient with slow-moving farm vehicles

Spring brings "April showers", warmer temperatures and an increase of slow-moving farm equipment on Missouri roadways. The Missouri Coalition for Roadway Safety promotes the Farm Safety Awareness campaign during harvest season in the fall and planting season during spring to remind drivers to be patient and drive carefully around workers in slow-moving farm vehicles who are just doing their jobs driving from field to field.
