Mowing season and litter prevention go hand in hand

Trash on Missouri roadways makes it harder for MoDOT crews to do their job

Summer means mowing season for MoDOT, so please watch out for these crews and give them room to do their work alongside Missouri roadways.

Litter is also a concern this time of year as discarded and unsecured trash can interfere with mowing operations, which is why MoDOT began litter-prevention messaging leading up to mowing season.

Last year, MoDOT spent $13.6 million and staff worked more than 180,000 labor hours removing litter from state highways and roadsides - and the department predicts to spend at least that much again this year.

State laws and federal regulations are being enforced to hold trucking companies accountable who travel without a cover and leave a trail of trash along the way.

Remember, it's up to everyone to properly dispose of trash and help keep Missouri beautiful so MoDOT crews can spend more time dedicated to maintaining Missouri's roadways.

Hannibal bridge project takes innovative approach

MoDOT has come up with an innovative approach to replacing the Missouri Route 79 bridge, also known as the Hannibal Viaduct, which serves as a main connector across the city. The new bridge's structure was mostly built under the existing bridge, which allowed a portion of the project to be completed while the bridge was still in use. Increased rain doesn't stop Rocheport bridge project

MoDOT's monthly Road to Rocheport video for May features Project Director Mike Schupp discussing the effect the recent rainy weather has had on the construction schedule for the new eastbound Lance Corporal Leon Deraps I-70 Missouri River Bridge. Fortunately, they continue to make mostly unimpeded progress despite rising water levels in the river.
