MoDOT extends overwidth hauling permits

No cost extension through Dec. 1 due to continued drought conditions

Continued drought conditions through much of the state have prompted the Missouri Department of Transportation to extend the special overwidth hauling permit for hay at no cost through Dec. 1, 2022. Loads must be of legal height, length and weight. Permits can be requested online using the MoDOT Carrier Express online service. To have the fee waived, customers can write a comment on the application about the fee waiver or call in when submitting their application to have the agent waive the fee.

Before hauling, drivers must apply for the special overwidth permit for loads that exceed 8 feet 6 inches in width and map their route to avoid work zones, bridges and other areas that have weight, narrow lane or height restrictions. To obtain a permit, hay haulers should visit www.modot.org/mce to login and use MoDOT Carrier Express to order hay permit(s). Haulers will need the make, license plate number and vehicle identification number (VIN) of the power unit and must provide the farm business name and address. MoDOT permits cover movement within Missouri only and are required for each truck. Please call MoDOT’s Motor Carrier Services office at 1-800-877-8499 with questions. Those who hold the special hay permit that expires on Oct. 31 will be issued one that is effective Nov. 1 through Dec. 1.

November is Historic Bridge Awareness Month

The Jefferson Avenue Footbridge in Springfield was built in 1902 and is a rare example of a cantilever truss footbridge. Cantilever truss bridges are built for vehicles to cross large rivers, but this design was used so pedestrians could cross over a railroad yard. Read about Missouri's historic bridges here.

Another Successful BUPD Day

The sixth annual BUPD Day was Oct. 21. Students at Capitol City High School in Jefferson City hosted a mock crash to raise awareness for the cause. Businesses and agencies around the state showed their support on social media, and various other states joined the cause, as well. Follow this link to learn more.

We want to hear from you!

The Central District is planning a lane expansion project at U.S. Route 54 in Camdenton. MoDOT staff will be hosting a public meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 15 at the Camdenton Chamber of Commerce. The public comment period is open now through Nov. 30. Follow this link for more information.
