June 15 marked World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD), a vital time to come together and speak out against the mistreatment of older adults.
This year's theme, "Grow the Conversation… Recognize the Signs, Reduce the Risks", called on Albertans to break the silence, stay alert to signs of abuse, and build a community of support.
Elder abuse affects up to 10% of older adults in Canada and can take many forms, from financial exploitation to emotional or physical harm. The Alberta Elder Abuse Awareness Council (AEAAC) continues its dedicated work to ensure every older adult
in Alberta can age with dignity and safety.
Together, we can foster respect, reduce stigma, and ensure our communities are safe for all ages. Learn how you can be part of the movement; not just in June but every day.
