EXTENSIONS

If we haven't received all of your tax information by March 1, we generally file an extension so we can concentrate our heavy workload on clients who have submitted all of their documents. This does not increase your chances for an audit.

We prepare and file extension forms with the IRS, and some states if required, to request additional time to file your tax returns. This allows us more time to receive late-arriving information and complete your returns accurately. While the full extension time period is 6 months, we can, and prefer to, file any time before that deadline (October 15).

It is important to remember that we still need to estimate your tax liability, and you need to pay those estimates by April 15 to avoid interest and penalties. Be sure to submit all the tax documents you have by April 1 so we have time to calculate your estimated payments due!

Also, you must pay any balances due for past BCPAG invoices in order for us to extend and continue working on your accounts (or have signed up for a monthly auto-payment plan).

TABOR REFUNDS!

For 2025, the state sales tax refund must be claimed when filing your Colorado income tax return (by the April 15 deadline, or October 15 if extended). Full-year residents will receive refunds based on their adjusted gross income: the range is from a minimum of $177 for a single filer with an AGI of under $53,000 to a maximum of $1,130 for joint filers with an AGI of $302,001 and over.

OTHER REMINDERS

  • If you turned age 73 during 2024, you must take your first Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) before April 1, 2025 if applicable.
  • Submit all documents through SafeSend: the easiest way is to click on the red link provided in every email from your Tax Manager. Be sure to sign up for your Client Portal by using the green link!
  • If you're expecting a refund, remember to watch for it either by direct deposit or mail. Colorado has millions of dollars of Unclaimed Property, in case you've lost or forgotten prior year refunds. Go to the Great Colorado Payback website for more information.
