Dear CRC,
I usually don't feel that "old" and for some of you, perhaps, I am not. However, this year is my "gold rush" birthday (I will be 49! And I just made up the term "gold rush birthday") and the world seems to be moving full-speed ahead on me while I am lagging.
For instance, I still prefer pen and paper to my computer. I like to read the comics in the Sunday paper. I remember when my parents planned movie nights using a projector, and when we bought this new machine called a microwave. I also seem to speak an entirely different language than many of the youth today, and don't even get me started on the abbreviations used for everything. TBH? I am definitely getting old.
I was at the store last week and saw a card that said, "Hope your birthday is EXTRA!" As many an internet-savvy older person would do, I googled what that meant. "Extra" has a lot of meanings now, some of them not-so-positive. But, in the birthday card, it means "better than you'd imagine!" Or, "more of all the good stuff!" Grammatical shortcomings aside, it made me think of our volunteer team.
We have many volunteers who donate their time to us at least once a week. They come back, again and again. We have groups who return each year, or each quarter or each event, because we are now a cause that they deem valuable to partner with. In a world where volunteer recruitment and retention is down, CRC is thriving, because of the commitment of our volunteers to the concept of EXTRA.
Read below the news of ways CRC Volunteers are joining in the work we do and how you can get involved! (Bad news or comics sections not included).
