What is your P.L.A.C.E. in worship?

During Lent, you may have seen a new offering card in the sanctuary and around the fellowship hall that we call our P.L.A.C.E cards. It is an acronym for Praise, Lament, Adjuration, Commitment, and Endow. Each aspect can be seen as an offering to God when given sincerely and in faith. They align with different seasons and expressions in worship, ensuring that our acts of devotion extend beyond just financial giving to include the full range of human responses to God’s presence and work in our lives.

If you are a member of this church, you have already made a covenant, which is:

  • Prayers:
  • Praying for the church, its members, and the world, seeking God's guidance and support.
  • Presence:
  • Being actively involved in the life of the church, attending services, and participating in community activities.
  • Gifts:
  • Sharing one's spiritual gifts, talents, and resources (including financial gifts) to support the church's mission.
  • Service:
  • Offering time and skills to serve others within the church and in the wider community.
  • Witness:
  • Living out one's faith in a way that inspires others, sharing one's story, and inviting others to learn about Jesus Christ.

The P.L.A.C.E. cards are to be used in worship for both members AND non-members to be an act of response to what God is doing in your life during worship on Sundays. Drop these cards in the offering plates or leave them on the altar or prayer rails. Let Trinity United Methodist Church know how we can pray with you in your season as you make your offering known to God. Our ministry staff prays over each card weekly. We have learned so much these past few weeks about our congregation!

I am praying for you as we approach the midpoint of the Lenten season. Let us not lose sight of our fasting and yearning for God's presence so that we may go into Holy Week fresh and renewed because we rest in Christ.

Christe Eleison!

New Faces at Trinity

Exciting news from Trinity! We are thrilled to introduce some fabulous new additions to our team! Please join us in giving a warm welcome to Leigh Rice and Forrest Oliver, who serve as Director and Assistant Director of the Joyful Place Respite Ministry. They've been with us since January, and what an incredible journey it’s been already!

And let's not forget about our wonderful new Office Assistant, Janet Dunn, who joined us just this month!

We couldn't be more excited to have these amazing ladies as part of our Trinity family. Be sure to say hello and give them a warm welcome when you see them around! Let’s celebrate this exciting new chapter together!

Forrest Oliver

Asst. Director of Joyful Place Respite Ministry

Forrest L. Oliver is the Assistant Director of Joyful Place Respite Ministry. Forrest was an active volunteer for years before taking on the role of assistant in 2024.

She feels being a part of respite gives her an opportunity to give back to the community in an area that is special to her. Forrest's mom and family members dealt with Alzheimer's/ Dementia for years, so she feels as though it is her calling to serve. I grew up in the Methodist church, so this feels like home. In my free time, I love being outdoors and traveling.

Leigh Rice

Director of Joyful Place Respite Ministry

Leigh (Johnson) Rice has been the director of JOY at Joyful Place Community Respite since 2022. She's a native of Okaloosa County, born and raised in Ft. Walton Beach, and currently resides in Shalimar with her husband of 31 years, Brian. Leigh graduated from Choctawhatchee High School and the University of South Alabama with a Master's Degree in Therapeutic Recreation.

She's spent much of her 30-year career working with senior adults and has a specific gift for connecting with people living with dementia. Leigh and Brian have two sons, Evan (wife, Chloe) and Eric, and numerous dogs, goldfish and granddogs. Leigh volunteers for a local dachshund rescue and loves boating, fishing, thrifting/antiquing, weekends at Lake Seminole, and traveling near and far with friends and family.

Janet Dunn

Office Assistant

Janet Dunn has been part of the Trinity Staff since March 2025. She grew up in Shalimar, FL, and graduated from Choctawhatchee High School in 1973. In her senior year, she was captain of the girls' golf team.

After graduation, she moved to Middletown, Ohio, and lived there for 9 years. She has 2 beautiful daughters, 4 grandchildren, and one great-grandson!

In her free time, Janet loves to cook, plant veggies and flowers in her garden, and spend time with her family watching the Florida Gators football and Atlanta Braves baseball.
